Default Traveling Via Airplane w. Str8

I haven't flown on a plane since before 911, and you know how airport security is now.

I'm going on a trip and I was wondering what frequent flyers do with their straights. I was considering finishing up one of my crappy looking razors to be shave ready and mailing it to my destination—a friend's house. I wish I could take the filly but I don't trust it in the mail (I've lost items to mail limbo before).

    Using the old M3 is O U T O F T H E Q U E S T I O N !!! I hated that thing with a passion.

Thank you in advance for your help.

You are fine if you put it in checked luggage. Dont try to carry on unless you dont want to make it to your destination.

Yep,in your checked bag will be fine.I would add that a crush-proof case of some kind would be good also.Baggage handlers are rough and decades-old celluloid can be brittle.

Checked bags are no problem. My checked bag is of a length that a filly length strop fits nicely along the inside edge of the bag.

    Hello, ISaid:

Slartibartfast's advice is sound. I, too, pack the dopp travel kit, which includes the straight razor, in my suitcase and check it. My travel straight razor of choice is the Dovo "Perlex" 5/8". My dopp kit includes as well a Feather AC and a Merkur DE travel razor for backup.

Everything in the suitcase and checked.

    Regards,

    Obie

Checked luggage solves the problem but if you don't want to check your baggage then mail it a few days ahead.

Thank you all for your advice. I still don't trust the Filly with travel though (maybe I'm just paranoid) so I'm honing up a Wade & Butcher "indestructible" I came across at a antique shop last year.

As for hard case, I have been using a hard plastic dart case for travel; it's the perfect size for a couple of straights. I wish I had not thrown the other two away before I discovered their use and straights.
