Thanked: 2How Much Growth Does One Need?
How much hair growth do you need in order to actually shave? If you do a really good shave one morning (including ATG), there might not be a substantial amount of growth the next. I need the practice, but wanted to check that I wasn't breaking any ancient traditions first.

Probably depends on the person and your idea of what enough to shave means. I find the next day I have substantial stubble and have no issues with shaving. If I wait 1.5 days between shaves though that works out the best.

Depends on the person I suppose...when I was 16, it was once a week and even that was really pushing it since my hair was light. Here it is over twenty years later and I have to do three passes a day to keep it knocked down. It also helps keep those grey freaks out of my beard that keep multiplying each and every year!

It just depends on how fast your beard grows in. I shave every day and if I dont, I have noticable stubble by mid morning.
But you can shave basically once your skin doesnt feel smooth any more..!

Hi.
Like thebigspendur says, it is very individual.
I myself shave every day.
For me, using a straight actually gives me the opportunity to shave in the evening and still be representable the following workday.
I've never been able to do that with a Fusion or a Quatro.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 2Gentlemen,
Thanks for the advice. I'm in the military, so I need to keep a nice, clean look going fairly consistently. I had my first shave last evening (exploits can be found at http://straightrazorpalace.com/member-introductions/52647-greetings-colorado.html), and that has held up fairly well for the day. I'll probably go again in an hour or two, to get some more practice in. It has held up remarkably well, though.
I'm still young, so I have a few years to catch up to your growth patterns, Red96ta :P
Cheers,

Thanked: 1185Wolf,
You're definitely headed in the right direction. I only wish I had discovered the pleasures of a good shave back when I was in the military. If you've got to shave daily, why not make it enjoyable, right? But back when I was 1YoungGI, I didn't know any better and the only enjoyable shaves were the ones I avoided. I skipped shaving whenever I could (weekends, leave, etc.) Now that I'm retired and my employer would probably not care if I never shaved again, I've discovered the great shave and seldom miss a day. I think you'll find that most of these guys are daily shavers, I for one can't remember the last day I missed a shave. I seem to leave stubble in the sink daily, even if it's not all that long, it's there. Even if it wasn't I'd probably shave daily just because I find it so enjoyable and relaxing. Don't hassle the small stuff, just have fun. I doubt seriously you would ever be banished from SRP for over-shavingThe older I get, the better I was

I shave every 24 hours-every other day. If I try to shave twice a day, I can, but the razor is harsh to my face as it hasn't healed yet.

The ancient tradition is to shave when you need to.
Practice on a balloon if you are impatient.
For your face just let it take as much time as it takes.
There is no need to rush a lifetime endeavor.
Lathering... that is different. You can practice building
a lather twenty times a day if you want to. In fact I
recommend practice building a lather with an inexpensive
shave soap like Williams.
Honing and stropping... you can hone and strop twenty
razors and give yourself a presidential shave each morning
testing each one.
The shaving bit... keep it to once a day or less for now.
Shaving does challenge the skin -- give it time to heal
or you will learn why. Now there are occasions where
a clean shave for a hot date makes sense but it makes
more sense to shift your shave from the AM to the PM
rather than doubling up.
Summary:
If you have to ask us then no is likely the answer.
And yes there are exceptions..... And yes it is your
face, it will tell you when enough is enough.
