Thanked: 7Using Lather as a Preparation
Recently i have been experimenting with lathering up with shave soap about 5 or ten minutes before shaving in order to hydrate the whiskers. It works very well for me.
I had been considering making a gel containing hair conditioner that could be brushed on when the idea of using lather occurred as a simpler option.
Does anyone else do this?

If I'm not shaving immediately after showering, my prep involves washing my face, lathering up, letting it sit for 2min (or less, depending on the time taken to run downstairs, strop and walk upstairs), rinsing off, lathering up again and starting to shave immediately. Works like a charm.

I sometimes find myself lathering up in my sleep before I get up in the morning. Is this normal?

Easily that and more.
I’ve been considering what I want for my whiskers.
I want them hydrated and standing up to get cut.
I want the skin pores open, and lubricated so the razor slides across the skin and not into it.
That for me can be best accomplished through a long hot towel and cream treatment.
I have stopped shaving after a shower which may wash off too much of the natural skin oils.
I hot towel, preshave cream and lather, hot towel, rinse, re- preshave cream and lather.
Now this is where I get a little crazy. I only shave parts of the face that have lather.
My goal being to shave the whiskers not the skin.
I know all the cool vids show guys going over parts they have just shaved for a couple of strokes.
I’m not there yet; I shave the whiskers that are lathered over the skin that is lubricated. I can re-lather and hit it on a second pass or hit it when I change direction of attack.
