    Default Over Stropping?

    Howdy all,

I was wondering if it was possible to over strop a blade?

Or is stropping just good news all around no matter how much?

I think it would take a whole lot of stropping to get to that point. A lot of guys routinely strop 50 linen & 100 leather before a shave. Just a wild guess, but I doubt we'd see anything nerve-racking before 1000 laps. Of course I'm assuming that your technique is correct the whole time.

    Anyone up for an experiment?

I always do 50/100 before a shave and 25/50 after one.

Well I just finished stroping a razor for an hour that had magically lost its edge. Figure I was doing 1 lap per 2 seconds on average - 15 minutes of testing and getting the feeling back in my forearm. Other than recovering the edge and making it hard to type I don't think anything ill has come of it.

Other than wasting your time, there is no problem with over stropping.

I've been blessed with good form right from the get go and my blades shave perfectly. I was only worried that because I love stropping and just being able to relax while doing it I might over do it some day.

The only danger with a ton of stropping is letting your technique go - as long as you have good stropping technique, you can do 1000 laps with no problem! (not sure why you would want to go past 100, though)

Good question and I'm glad to see the answer is no...I strop the HELL out of my blades! So much so, I'll probably get carpal tunnel someday!
