    Default Big Thank You

to all of the members and your invaluable advice. I thought I would post a few of the "lessons" I learned after reading some posts and applying them to my shaving routine (in the hopes that others will consider trying something new).

    1. The problem was ME, not the razor! My technique had to adapt and grow as I became more proficient with the straight. Feel your beard and find which way it grows. Shave according to your face and let the blade cut your hair. Don't force it.

    2. When you can...try new razors. I started with a carbon Bismarck and thought I was finished with buying razors. After just getting my Dovo Micarta...I stand corrected.

    3. Alum block = great buy. It does not lie! The block will tell you when you shaved correctly. Plus, it just feels so d*mn good. Get one. Right now.

    4. Take your time. This goes for stropping, shaving and honing. No one is watching you, so who cares about being flashy. Enjoy your time and relax.

    5. Ask questions and do your homework. Anyone that says they know it all, has much more to learn.

    6. ESID = every shave is different. Embrace what works for you. After all...we are all unique, just like everyone else.

I agree with all of the above except the alum. It stings like buggery and there's other indicators telling you whether you shaved well.

I'll second that motion. Success stories are a lot better to hear than horror stories!
Cheers and keep up the good work

Its great you hear your excitement and to see you share it with others. When I thought about straight shaving, I read posts like yours and said to myself, "if he can do it, so can I".
