    Default drag and pull

Hi i have been shaving with a str8 for just over a month.. I got a AOS razor that was "shave ready" however i don't think it was.. the first few times i shaved i expected it to suck and not work any way it was supposed to.. however it's been a month and i just got done shaving.. worst shave of my life.. i don't think my razor was really shave ready. I am not saying that i have mastered the art of shaving or anything like that.. i am sure i am doing something wrong.. but i think my razor should shave better.. It just seems like my face is dry and the razor don't slide smooth...i take a hot shower before i shave and wash my face with body wash as well as conditioner for my head because i think it might soften the whiskers.. after i get out of the shower i put pre shave lotion on my face that came in my AOS shave kit. i rub that in and let it sit for a min while i strop my razor.. I have some shaving cream i got with my AOS kit as well as shaving soap i got from cvs. I lather my face with the soap and a little cream.. and just a touch of my body wash because i love the way it smells. ahhah.. i haven't got to shaving ATG but i do WTH and XTG... i wonder if i was to get my razor honed my someone if that would fix it.. i practiced my stropping with a butter knife before i tried it for real but i am sure i am doing something wrong there.. I was never taught how to shave with a disposable let alone a str8 hahah

I don't know much about AoS's actual razors or if they ship shave ready. It certainly wouldn't hurt to send it to a reputible honemeister, and get their opinion on the quality of the razor as well.

Edit; It looks like Thiers-Issard, which is a great razor manufacturer. It is either your technique or a less than shave ready razor, or more than likely, both.

You need to have your razor honed by a Pro. Also, it sounds like your lather is probably a little dry. Once you have a shave ready razor you will be able to develop your shaving technique, but until then it will be an exercise in frustration.
