First full Straight shave
So I finally got all my swag in order for a real shave. Poor Man's scuttle, honed razor, brush, Williams shaving soap. Managed to get the whole face done without missing anything. Some parts are a little lack luster; I'd say on par with a dead dead Mach 3 (yes I dropped the M-Bomb). Only got 2 small nicks, but one I'm blaming on the wife distracting me by trying to have a conversation with me. The other was totally my fault. Instead of shaving my hand thought it would be a good idea to shave like I was carving bacon off a ham. Both of them barely bled at all.
Needed at least 3 passes on the chin and upper neck to get it all, but I'm attributing that to my razor needing a better honing and stropping. I have to say though never have I had a shave that I would refer to as "refreshing". I actually can't wait for the whiskers to grow back so I can do it again.
HA!
This is awesome.

Thanked: 1195Glad to hear things are going well and you're enjoying yourself. In time with better technique and stropping you may be able to cut the passes on our chin down from 3 to 2, but perhaps that's not the issue. It not only depends on the above factors but on your whiskers and skin type too. I need 3 passes to get my chin smooth: 1-WTG, 2-XTG in opposite directions. My chin whiskers are like wire, and I like a close shave....

Must be an Albertan thing, we gots some tough facial hair. Oh well, I'll get better practicing out in the patch. I just may get strange looks when shaving.

Sounds like your're off to a good start!
It would help getting something else than Williams soap though.

They have Wilkinson Creme soap at the stores too. I might just try to use up the rest of the Williams for now, I mean, if I can get lather out of that I can squeeze blood from stone right?

Thanked: 1195If you can make it to a Shoppers Drug Mart they sell Proraso, which is infinitely better than Williams and Wilkinson

Well if you want to use a crappy product, please go ahead...
At least anything else will feel like heaven when you run out.
Seriously, a better soap or cream will only make for better shaves.

Thanked: 0My kit was put in the mail just over a week ago. But the 'hurricane frenzy' on the east coast combined with Ramadan and eid work schedules for Qatari customs has caused some delays.

I forgot all about the Hurricane messing with the mail. That makes some more sense now. All I can say is, painful though the wait is, it's entirely worth it.
