I have a minuscule dimple on the tip of my nose from passing my double duck from one hand to the next in front of my face. I didn't feel a thing on my nose, but the slight resistance in my hand told me something was up. At the time I couldn't tell what had happened because there was no mark and no blood. A few days later I noticed two of my pores seemed to be connected. It's been several months now and the wife hasn't even noticed. I'll tell her one day and see if she can spot it.

I gave myself a nasty cut behind my left ear the first time I did my head. Never really left a scar, but the blood freaked my wife out.
I think, in terms of street cred, nothing would beat a Glasgow smile...
aka the "chelsea smile"... don't bother looking this one up, trust me, you don't wanna know.Quote:

Got a nasty cut on my right index finger the first time a used a strop (about 1 week ago). Went about 1/2cm input the top my my finger. was bleeding for ages. Not a drop of blood on the blade through. Supose this will teach me to keep an eye on the blade while turning the strop around!
Still a bit painful. Nice clean cut though so should heal OK.
I have a dueling (that's what I use as an excuse) scar on my left cheek 3 inches long.
I actually took off a small chunk of my thumb, while giving the Sprock a final polish. It's filling up quite nicely, so it might not end up in a scar. However, I was kind of glad Dave picked the Hamburg Ring as the Sprock got my blood sacrifice. Took quite a bit of CA to stop the bleeding.
I have a half-inch vertical scar on my cheek - I was trying to shave the area under the corner of my mouth. I didn't realize the spike on my 4/8 wedge had bridged over and contacted my cheek. Doh!!
Its still fairly new and pink, but I'm sure it will fade.

A half-inch vertical on my left cheek. I blame my stupid newbie skills. Actually had to use a bandage for a couple of hours; stypic pencil wouldn't stop the flow.
Looking back, I think the worse part about the whole incident was listening to my wife's non-stop banter about how I deserved it and was eventually going to do some real harm.

I'd take a 4-incher over a wife's harping any day of the week :D
Shaving wise, I have a scar above my left jawbone, halfway between my ear and my chin. I got it when I lost track of where the spike point was on the razor I was using. It cut a 3/4" long x 1/8" deep flap into the skin! :(
I don't have any real scars yet. Most of what I gave myself healed without incident. I suppose I have now jinxed myself.
It did take years for my beard to start growing in the area where the chinstrap of my football helmet used to rub against my chin. Which was a good incentive to shave.
No scars to date. Sure lots of cuts but none turned into scars.
I have had my share of scars else where from other knifes and machines in my life. Good stories though.

I actually have a mensurschläger - it's really a very finely crafted thing. Something like a heavy, double-edged, yard long straight razor. :) I've always wondered if, given the training and opportunity, I'd have the stones to try it. :gth
Anyway, I now return you to your regularly scheduled straight razor thread.
got 2 scars
one vertical to my jaw. while shaving felt a scratching(because hte spikepoint digged nicely into my skin) - there but contiued
didn't bleed, but now I have a nice reminder there.
The 2nd. one verticaly on my cheekbone
this was nastier.
 it looks like a genuine schmiss and somehow Iam proud of it !
My wife wasn't too happy about - she got used to it because I don't give St8
shaving up because of that.
It's simply a part of it and me.
Strange though it happen on my left "good side" as Iam a lefthander
nothing no scars on my right , and chin which is my problem zone none
Interesting that you've mentioned that as my scars were all on the right side and I'm a dexter.
Mine's an equal opportunity face... :o :D
As i posted before, the worst cut was when I shaved for the very first time with a str8.
My father had never done it, my grandfather always used DE's and passed away befor I could ask him.
So, without any practicing or Internet-fora I tried myself. I had practiced a little on my hand and arm and that went OK.
Right cheek was no problem, in fact I was surprised how smooth it went. But then to shave the left cheek... I still had the razor in my right hand and managed to dig the full lenght of the blade into my cheek...
This was about 12 yrs ago and the razor came shave-ready out of the shop, so it was very, very, very sharp and made a clean cut. The cut left no scar so noone had to call me "scarface" :nj
After that experience I looked in awe at the razor never to use it again. Until some 6 months ago, I had to buy new blades for my GMachIII and decided to go cheap for the future and bougt again a str8. It's all history after that.
Been known to nick up the ear lobes on occasion........hahahahaha

I cant shave that area in my normal downward pattern anymore as the scar turned out quite lumpy
I was shaving with my rogers which has a very long monkey tail and because of that the geometry of the blade and tang are thrown off so you have to hold it kind of odd like and as I was shaving across the left side of my chin for some inexplicable reason I did this sideways maneuver. Left about a two inch cut and a very nasty scar.
Argh me harties and shiver me timbers!
my worst so a has been a cut on the left side of my chin. I got it simply for not paying attention and it sank right in (damn those 7/8 TI's:D ). It left a big cut about 1.5 inches long. Now that in itself wasn't so bad.
However we had a big church conference that day for which I had to do some of the translation for someone who'd come to speak in English (so from english to dutch) and I had to stand on the stage next to him.....believe me I had a lot of people ask me what'd happened that day. Including the two churchleaders that came from abroad especially for that day.
yeah...but you have to get a "glasgow kiss" before you get a smile....and I thin i'd rather pass on that one....leaves your nose slightly crooked most of the time.Quote:

Toughest old bastard I've ever met. He had an aluminum ladder dropped on his head from about 10 ft in the air. It was being hoisted up onto the roof of a building without a spotter down below and he walked under at the wrong time. Damn near scalped him and he didn't even fall down. A few hundred staples and stitches later, he looks like a brain donor.
I used to work for this guy with Scottish ancestors who told me a story.. He met this real Scottsman at a pub (using different clan names to protect the privacy):
-So what's yer clan?
-Oh I'm a Campbell
-I'm a McDonald.. Come outside and I'll fight ye <-- the dude was actually being serious, something about a family feud and treachery lol.

It was for being an a-hole. Actually my wife burst in to ask me some incredably trivial yet must be answered now question and I flinched. I actually have a matching one not as big on my other cheek from a surprise entrance while I was using a Lynn honed razor while commando shaving.Quote:

So, the Cambells were ordered to kill them all. Which they did, but only after accepting the McDonald's hospitality and staying the night, dining with them and playing cards and whatnot. Then, they woke at 5 am, and murdered people in their beds (and burned the houses down, and chased the survivors, etc.). Actually, the McDonald-Cambell feud dates back even further than that, but that's one of the most famous examples.
According to my Granny, there is an old highland saying that you "canna trust a Campbell." ;) Some people cleave very closely to the historical rivalry, even to this day.
I'm sure there are tales of blood and treachery between any 2 random Scottish clans. Even though I've not been too interested in the history of the islands, I've had a favourable impression of the Campbells. One thing I've learned about history is that nothing's a black-white issue. A part of my clan moved from Herzegovina to Serbia about 400 years ago with no explanation that they wanted to be remembered. Who knows on whose toes they stepped on lol.
Well, sure. Only this particular tale of blood and treachery is more lurid and more famous than most. It also appeals to the traditional highland/lowland divisions and the Jacobites.Quote:
