One hand shaver looking for tips

In fifteen years I have been shaving with one hand. Then again I have been shaveing WTG and XTG so keeping the blade angle on both my cross side cheek and near side cheek hasn't been a problem. Lately I discoved ATG passes. This works great cross side but I am finding it difficult to maintain shaving angle on my near side. I like the smooth shave but could do without the burn on my nearside cheek. Any other one hand shavers figure this one out? Any tips?

I'm a dominant hand shaver and I would say it is a matter of trial and error. Most of the time burn is caused by too much pressure but blade angle may have something to do with it. Some of the old books say that ATG should be avoided. I've been shaving WTG and ATG ..... or more accurately north/south and south/north for years. Not all of my whiskers grow in the direction to where it is a true ATG. I would suggest try flattening the blade angle and focus on no pressure when you're shaving ATG.

I've found that much shorter strokes help on ATG as well. I'm still at the point where helps means less blood, so it's possible this advice is a bit to newbish.

I'm a dominant hand only shaver, too. Angle determines closeness, but pressure determines abrasion (razor burn). Don't press down so much.

I use my right hand only with my straights...making funny faces helps too...but I do skin stretch with my left hand..but cant have my left hand hold the razor

I am a southpaw and use my left hand for almost everything. The only time I switch hands is on the Atg pass on the left side of the face. So might be worth a try

I am hopelessly left-handed, actually. I've never had a problem shaving with just one hand. Until I read some of these posts, so use a little less pressure, and practice your technique and just kind of use the force and let the blade glide across your skin.

I just started but decided from the first shave to be a dominant (right) handed shaver. I'm a close cropped beard wearer so I only do the upper part of my cheeks and all of my neck below my jawline. WTG and a couple XTG (diagonal like) from both directions on each side see to give me near BBS shaves. I tried ATG but no matter the angle or how light the pressure it just seems to burn by shaving off any bumps surrounding the base of each wisker. I'm hoping that in a couple months my skin will be accustomed to the blade and allow from some ATG action, but until then these diagonal XTG passes are working quite nicely.

Right hand dominate. Use my right mainly to shave with. But Dominate Eye may play a roll in how you shave. It may be like archery where if your right eye dominate you shot right handed. Left eye dominate you shave left handed?

Personally, I'd have to agree with this. I can use both of my hands fairly equally, but when i first started I didn't think it was possible to use either of them for certain positions i saw other people just naturally putting blades in. I think it does in fact all just come down to trial and error and after a while you just figure out what's gunna work for your face and it all just starts feeling more natural
