I do the same, but have in the past "accidentally" forgotten to take out my DE on a carry on, should probably stop doing that...
Oddly enough the bic singles were what I used for about 4 years before getting into a DE, then eventually straights. I bought the military BX store-brand single disposables, $1.10 for a 10 pack, I would buy them 5 or so at a time, almost a year's worth for a 5-er, I thought I was very clever, haha. Then came the big-money world of straights. But you can't take it with you, right? :tu
I am now into my second week of using a str8 daily, and I'm starting to settle into a routine. M-F single WTG pass and full shave on the weekends.
Straights only, unless I've had too much to drink! Then I break out my Ikon DE. I do use a disposable for the back of my neck, but they never will touch my face again if I can help it.
I read that TSA was allowing pocket knives now...it seems logical that a straight should've allowed.
However, I think we all know that logic is not a necessary component of TSA rules;)
TSA is always one step behind. Hijackers use boxcutters? No blades allowed. They use gel-based explosives? Obviously anything more than 3.4 ounces would be enough to bring down a plane. Terrorists don't use the same method twice, so my logic goes to whether it is preventing them (bad guys) from using the same tactic again, or just simply inconveniencing law-abiding folk... Either way, bring your disposable :)
Travel kit goes with me,
granted I always have checked bag's as I fly with my side arm.

Is that a VDH bowl, brush, and soap set I see?
Took the plunge and disposed of the (by then pretty blunt) disposables the day my straight arrived to ensure total commitment!
I can't see myself going back it's just too enjoyable and throwing up all sorts of unexpected benefits. Usually shave daily as I'm on the steep bit of the learning curve and want to climb it as fast as possible!
I use straights only. When I'm not able to shave with a straight (mostly when I have no time) I don't shave. It can wait a few days, a straight doesn't bother. DE's or disposables I don't have. And electric... No.
I've been shaving daily with straights since January and only used my old cartridge razor on a recent trip to a conference. Shaving with the cartridge for three days was horrible -the shave didn't last, the passes were no fun. It convinced me to find a way to take the straight next time I travel.
No more cartridges for me!
I only use straights for the past 2 years. On rare occasion I will take. Shave with a DE that I have, after the stubble starts growing back I remember why I shave with a straight.
I avoid the time issue by shaving t nights, I find it more enjoyable anyway.
Nothing but a Straight for me!
4 Months in and I wouldn't go back if you paid me.....
Is there a other way than whit a straight? ;)
I only use a D.E when i have a hurry!
I've just finishing mastering the DE and looking forward to commencing my SE training.
Threw away my disposables and not looking back.
