They may not now but I did see a straight stamped Merkur somewhere a while back. My guess is that at one time they did.

In the article, Dovo said they sent the movie producers or whoever a Dovo straight but the one used in the movie isnt the one they sent because it may have been too sharp. But from the look of the razor in the movie its not a vintage straight. At least not to me.
After rereading the article, they seem pretty certain that it was some other Dovo straight.
From the dinner tux to the Martini (shaken not stirred), Bond is the ultimate in class. In my opinion, there's nothing classier than stropping your blade, lathering up and skillfully navigating your face with a blade that can kill you with a slip of the wrist (or a kid barging into the bathroom unannounced), or having a hot girl do it for you.
I think in this modern, impersonal, technology-driven world that people are increasingly hungering for something simple, comprehensible and SLOWER!
Just saw Skyfall. I waited to buy the BluRay. Of course, I paused it through the shaving scene.
Here is my best guess assessment.
1. He has already been shaved. The lather covers the clean skin over which she draws a dulled blade. That is certainly how I would do it if I were concerned about my actors well being and safety; plus they almost certainly took many takes. You just can get these shots in one take.
2. The scale with center pin, and the blade shape favor a Dovo.
3. It seems fitting that the brush is a Kent, and that is my guess; however, there are too many brushes with this handle and fan shape to be definitive.
Has anyone obtained an official response from the studio on this important topic.

I picked the movie up tonight myself, I haven't watched it again (saw it in theaters) but one of the things I was wondering today and I am sure I am not the only one on this one, supply has dried up it seems since it came out in theaters, now that it is on video, I wonder how long before the supply actually comes back again. Definitely should be interesting. There are razors out there still, but the choices are slim, and I read a post once that strongly suggested you not "settle" for a razor but get the one you want. Little difficult currently and I assume it will be so for some time to come now. Enjoy though for those who haven't seen it, it is a good movie!
I would say that one should definitely not settle, but bide one's time and wait for the poor bugger who picked up a straight after seeing Skyfall but who *didn't* find a forum like SRP or a mentor to show him the ropes to sell it on the cheap in a fit of frustration. :)
i actually never even read this thread until i just got done watching the movie about 20mins ago .. my x brother inlaw , x wife and i just watched it .. my x bro says to bad you didnt use a straight when you were married or my x could of gave me a shave like that ... then silence , then laughter as we all agreed that my x with anything sharp near me is a bad idea ...lol
Let me get ths straight. You just watched Skyfall with your ex-B.I.L and your ex-wife...Then made disparaging remarks about your ex-wife and sharp objects while she's sitting in the same room as you...This is sounding like an odd sort of 'family' if you ask me...No wonder there are so many Ex's in the story.

This is pretty wild.
About 3 weeks ago I got my first straight shave from a barber, then I saw the movie, then I thought, I really liked that shave I wonder if I could do that my self?
I read up on it, asked the barber what he thought, and just ordered my first blade. I have always been a fan of things that are classic in nature and require skill, like metal working, or gun smithing, so I think I am really gonna enjoy straight razor shaving.
Oh my lord! :gaah: :)

Has anyone else observed that vintage straight razors have become much more expensive (on eBay etc) since the release of the film?
Yes, I too have noticed that. It seems before the film came out, you could grab a nice vintage straight razor from $20.00-$40.00. Now, it seem it has almost doubled that. Maybe in a couple of months we will see them back on Ebay because, either the guys will be hacking up their faces or they don't want to take the time to shave with one!! :)
Just got done watching the movie and just had to google the brand of the razor, and of course I should have known my favorite forum would have a thread on it.
I bought the movie (didn't make it to the theater), and the straight razor use seemed to fit into the theme of Bond and the 50-year franchise being over the hill. He couldn't pass a fitness test, turns to the bottle, has to get into the original "Bondmobile" to think, go back to his roots to figure a way out of the jam he's in, etc. That's frankly something I didn't like.
The appeal of these Bond movies to me was the fact that he was "hip," always ahead of his time, confident, no concessions to human frailities.
I thought this movie violated all of those things.
Somebody needs to set this young man straight! The rest of us think that James Bond with a straight razor is uber cool, just like we are every morning in the mirror, with our own straight razors.
And I thought it was the best Bond movie in so many years. Excellent mix of retro and new stuff.
Allow me to assess the Skyfall movie. I have all of the Bond movies and this is my first one in BluRay. This is an impressive movie worthy of my collection; however, it does not rank among the very best of the franchise. The special effects and of course the use of the straight give it major cool, and what I really appreciate is that it is in so many ways a return to "old school" bond. This would seem to be the theme of the movie. The old ways have merit and should not be so quickly, if ever, discarded in favor of technology, processes, or systems. This should resonate with those of us who appreciate the nostalgia and benefits of straight razor shaving. Of course, this is just one man's opinion. :D
I see your point, but only after you pointed it out, but that was not my thoughts when watching the movie.
I love the bond movies, and I think this was one of the best yet. I like to think of him going "old school". As a sign of the times, many of our generation love going old school. It's part of why I love straights, mechanical watches, fountain pens, ect.
It's frankly something I did like.
I totally agree with you that the earlier movies had the effect of portraying Bond as hip, ahead of his time, et cetera. But being a member of the younger generation (born in the early 80's), the first bond movie I saw in theaters was Goldeneye. And to me, Pierce Brosnan's Bond was caddish and corny. When I would see him getting all giddy over the newest gadget, he didn't seem modern, he seemed like a middle aged dad who had discovered how to use his son's playstation. Skyfall shows a middle aged man coming to grips with being middle aged, and for men of my generation I think showing him driving a DB5 and shaving with a straight is a much cooler image than trying to be a 25 year old. I liked it!
It did indeed.
I wouldn't want to see the franchise make a steady diet of this, but it was a fantastic character enrichment.
At one point in the movie, the woman asks him,
"What do you know about fear, Mr. Bond"?
After a brief pause, his reply:
"...All there is".
Who's more bad-ass? Someone who knows no fear.... Or someone who's been there and back?
I know who I'd want watching my back.
The razor was really accounting to dovo it was one of their although they are not sure which model because they sent them a 3580 for the scene which the crew choose not to use. But dovo is sure they still used they blade with a #41 on the side. At least that is what i read online. Hope that helps
