What do you guys think of this baby?

Well last year I had a filarmonica that I sold. I got it for just a bit over $50 which is the limit that I set myself for vintage blades. For the months that I owned I notice how great it took an edge and how smooth of a shave it gave, but it didn't really look all that well. Browsing the galleries I always drooled over Celtic crusader's razor and my lust for filarmonicas was ignited. So when i saw a decent shaped filarmonica I haggled until I got a price I was comfortable paying. Ok here is the link

I have truly tried to find a better shaver than my priced Filarmonicas.
I've found many good ones, but not one that surpasses the magic of Jose montserrat Pou!

That looks like a very nice razor ! Is it 7/8 or ? Looks big. You made a fine deal. I have never tried one but I would say you may have found the cure for your RAD. OR quadrupled your spending limit :<0)

And yes, it looks like a 7/8 or even an 8/8, the big blades are awesome, I'm sure you'll really enjoy that blade!!!

My husband actually bought this razor about 50 years ago when he was sailing on merchant ships. He was a 3rd Class Engineer, he graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York, in 1963, so he was an officer on the ship. They went into a port in Spain where he bought the razor brand new, he thinks it cost then about $10.00. I wish he had bought about 1 dozen of them. We were not married yet, but I knew him. Now you have a history about the razor. I talk to much. Thank you I hope you enjoy it.

Then I asked if he shaved with a straight razor and here is her reply:

My husband said he might have tried it once or twice to shave but he did not have the belt to sharpen it so he did not use it much.

Well I think the buyer just backed off. She sent me this message, but I don't buy it
Dear robertopics,

I am so sorry but I was wrapping the razor in 2 tissues so it would fit more smugly in the box and the knife fell on the floor and 2 chuncks broke off the razor blade edge. It is not a pretty sight. I will have to refund you your money. I don't believe I did that. I will issue you a full refund. You don't even want to see what I did to it.

I don't buy that explanation...seen it before.

Tell her you want to see a pic of the blade, and if she doesn't produce one, tell her you will give very bad feedback on her page...bad feedback is something sellers avoid like the plague.

Methinks she's done some searching and found she could have got a lot more...see the pic with the damage, or bad feedback...don't agree to cancel the transaction until you do.

Adding: she has 100% feedback, she seems to be a big seller, so bad feedback is something she doesn't want. Ask for the pic and don't cancel the transaction until you do. If it's damaged, then fine...what a loss!!

Well... lots more out there. If she dropped it, It will shatter every time. Filly's are fragile things. No need to make a fuss. Find another one. Nothing can be accomplished by that at this point. JMO

Well I did pass on other razors that were ending about the same time. Had she said no from the start I would had gone for one of the other blades. On top of that my $200 are stuck.

Yea....could just cut your losses and walk away. But if you do, I'd keep an eye out to see if it gets re-listed....

Should clean up like a champ- gonna take a little bit if work but nothing you couldn't handle im sure. I like the blue scales and thankfully the gold wash appears to be in good shape.

That's one crazy story! Seems fishy to me too, but oh well what can you do.
But as far as Fillys go, I have not owned a lot of razors but agree that the best edge I have felt is from that razor.

Well that sucks big time. It won't be posted again. Somebody else that was watching probably bought it. All they had to do was offer 50 more. She wishes her husband bought more,,,,cause she is a greedy thing. I'll go offer her 325 and see if it breaks again.;)

Just goes to show that some eBayers are genuine.
I was holding my Filly closed whilst sitting at a table. It fell all of 4 inches and chipped the edge. Luckily I sent it to Jamie and he fixed it up a treat. I'll pop the link on here later.

Shame to see the end of a fine Filly.

Seriously, it's been rescaled, so it's just the blade. Figured it'd be a fun project at some point to try and scratch-build a set of Reaper scales.

That story and photo make me cringe! I thought it was bull as well but the picture has blue scales so I guess it was legit. Tough break - but if you get refunded then no harm no foul except for disappointment. Still...
