Should see some of the ice shacks people have near me. Wood stoves, TV, recliners, and electronic tips ups that will send a signal to your phone when there is a fish. Some of the deer blinds are even worse with cameras that will let you know when a deer is coming from a 1/2 mile away. Deer blinds and ice shacks the size of small cabins. To me that kind of takes the fun and challenge away.
Its so you can sit in a warm Shanty drinking and watching TV while on 2 foot thick Ice. You look out the window or open the door to see if you got a fish on. No?? close the door and go back to drinking and staying warm. Tip up?? go and collect your prize. Ice is so thick that folks put space heaters inside theirs. Shanty size can be up to a 1 car garage. They pull them out onto the lake with pick-up trucks. Yes the Ice is that thick and yes it is that cold. Loving seeing your location this time of year. Today shortest day of light . In Michigan thats just over 9hrs today. Well we will start getting a few seconds more each day from here on out.
That looks like fun,,,, maybe someday for me,,,,
High tech is the thing these days & a recliner with a tv................next thing you know, they'll have cable tv for 'em! If ya got heaters in 'em, then you could have blankets & sleep in a recliner!
I have never done anything like this! I live in Texas. We don't get to do this. I know what a tip-up is now from reading
ultrasoundguy2003's post. Is that what a tip-up is? When you have a fish on your line or near your line?
Here's a dumb question, but I still think about it while watching these TV shows about this type of fishing;
Do any of you worry about the ice suddenly cracking or splitting under you , when your drilling a hole? Do you have a rope or inflatable on while on the ice?
tip up is basically a rod and reel that you sit on the ice, and it has a spring loaded flag that pops up or "tips up" when you get a bite. Makes it easier to drink, and or catch more fish :).
When the time is right..like 18 inches of ice...you can drive your truck on the ice ..no problem..Here are some of my friends ,during the Annual ice fshing Derby....see the trucks on the lake !!!! All you need is 4 inches of ice to safely support a person.http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/...psce9155df.jpg
Here is a different Tip-up....when the Flag goes up....you got a FISH ON !!!!!!http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9e482296.jpg
