Default Couple Gillette DE Razors From Antique Shop

While visiting my folks, I stopped by a couple of antique shops. These were behind an antique register sitting on top of a display case. If I hadn't walked around it, I would have missed them. The adjustable needed a good bit of cleaning up, but the small (travel?) razor appears to be unused. It has the original paper card in the head where the blade goes!

First two pics are before cleaning. From what little I know, it appears to be a Gillette Fatboy or Slim. The adjustable is a little rough, but I think they were worth the $6 per razor.

Nice finds. You've been on a roll.
    The adjustable is a Slim.

You go to enough antique shops you'll eventually find something good. I can't tell you how many I've been in all. Only 1/10 have anything shaving stuff worth the trip!
Thanks, I hadn't compared pics so I didn't want to ID one way or another. I've been wanting to try an adjustable razor, so it is nice to finally have one.

Thanks. It is a little rough. There are a few spots where the plating is gone. It looks like brass underneath.
It is in good working order so that is the important thing. Now I just need to find my setting.

Yeah, I am averaging a good find at the local antique store about every six months.

    Thanks

I didn't do anything to the small razor. The lady at the shop said she thought it was probably from a travel kit. It is in great condition and still has the Gillette paper in the head where the razor goes. It may completely unused. It is probably just going to be a collector.

I soaked the Slim in water and generic CLR. That didn't do much though, so I used some extra fine steel wool and then polished it with Flitz. I should probably put a few drop of oil down the handle and head.
    Hart and engine46 like this.

You did right. For other's out there, never use but the finest grade steel wool I have seen which is 0000 grade. The other stuff will leave scratches.
