Can't see any reason why she wouldn't clean up nicely. I would try some polish first and see if that works, no sense sanding if it isn't needed. Since it doesn't seem to have any hone wear it should hone up fairly easily and Henckels make fantastic shavers.
I have tackled blades a lot worse. Looks like a good shaver.
It will turn out nice. There is something weird about the heel. I am sure you will spot what as soon as you have it in hand. I recognize the pictures, but that seller does not ship reasonably to Canada so I never look at his ads because occasionally it makes me sad. It is nice you have a new project to do while you are stuck around the house more than you like.
Having observed your previous work, no worries here !:beer1:
You should have plenty of time to work on it with this snow that is supposed to hit us tonight and tomorrow..........
That looks like a winner in the rough!
000 steelwool & WD40, 1k paper & some good polish on the blade and scales.
Nice find, Yea that will clean up nice.
I'd try some Maas or Mothers first & if that doesn't do it, then move forward. It might be me but it looks like it has a slight frown to it but even if it does, its a nice catch. I've seen some Henckels going cheap lately. What I see is probably the same thing Rezdog is talking about. I guess you'll know when you get it. I'd have it. None of my Henckels are that wide!
One side looks like it may have a slit frown the other side not so much. once in hand and cleaned to some degree i can tell more about it but for the price i couldn't loose much.
Yes, looks thin on the toe and a bit of a frown, but can easily be fixed.
Take some measurements once you get it, then decide if you want a slight smile or a straight even edge.
I like it, lots of potential there. :tu
Definitely manageable to cleanup and rehone than other restoration projects. Shouldn't take too much time, depending on the finish.
This one came today and i was very surprised. the dark spots are very small in comparison to the blade and don't appear to anything to them probably buff out will little to no effort. The edge that i thought might have a small frown really don't . I'll soon find out.
What is the model number Roger?
It's a model 65. square point. The place near the heal turns out to be nothing. looking forward to getting it cleaned up and tried out.
There are a lot of model numbers. I would really like to get my hands on some old catalogues that have pages and pages of all the different models. I am looking forward to seeing you work and hearing the shave report.
Attachment 226359Attachment 226360 I ended up using wet dry and WD40. Started out with 220-400-600-800-1200-2000 grit. then cleaned good and buffed with knife makers compound. I probably should have sanded morre but when it got to this stage I thought it was time stop. now all i need to do is hone the Wade and Butcher and this one. I think i have 2 more to do. You'll have to forgive my photos when i built my light box i made it on a pc. of plywood and now it's to heavy .
Well the back was felling pretty good today so i sat down with the last razors i got cleaned up including this one. It didn't disappoint. It hone up rather quickly and after the nanniwa progression and finishing on the suehiro 20 i stropped and cked. it passed the HHT with ease and i shave tonight and it was a nice close shave. now i tried out all 5 of the razors and they all shave. some nicer than others but i do believe that jumping form henckel to wade and butcher both square points to 5/8 wade and butcher to The Tower razor made in Germany to the french point Manhattan cutlery razor may have had something to do with it. I did end up with a small nick in front of the left ear from the wade and butcher square point. Oh well at least i still have my ear.
That is part of my reasoning behind generally shaving with the same razor for a week.
