8/8 McMoran & Co. Warranted Sheffield Straight Razor
Hello All Cheetah here,
I won this on Ebay yesterday and I'm coming up short on info on this maker. I've noticed that there's been a shortage of 8/8s being posted lately so I'm here to do my part.
I just checked taylors1000.com - Full A to Z list and nothing so I guess that list is not full yet...lol. I've googled and googled and nothing but old ebay links to expired sales.
The only other post that I've seen of a McMoran is actually on this site. I saw it here Back in 2011 Sharptonn had one. How fitting, my first post in like a year and I'm already singing his praises...lol
It looks like if I ever get around to restoring it, I will lose some of the width of the blade. That edge looks pretty ragged. I won't be able to tell what the rust situation is either until I receive it in the mail.
This is what the seller had to say:
"For sale is an antique straight razor. The blade is signed "J. McMoran & Co." I think it also reads 'Sheffield' so this might be made in England? It has a natural looking wood handle and the blade is rather larger so this might have been for a barber? I am not exactly sure how to measure the blade but as you can see from the 4th picture it is about 1" thick. It is also just under 6" across. The wood handle is about 6 1/8" across. The condition of the blade is fairly good with some oxidation and some light chipping of the edge, just as pictured. The handle is in good shape and intact with I suppose normal general wear and patina. I am not a razor person so if you have specific questions please feel free to ask."
Let me know your thoughts. Thank for looking.
