Make no mistake the boar brushes are stiff and scratchy when new. It takes about 2 -3 weeks of everyday use for the tips of the bristles to flag/split and the softness to come through. Nothing like a good two band badger with soft tips but still pleasing. They loose a bit of stiffness too but still have plenty of backbone. I've used them with creams/croaps/hard soaps and no problems.

I have an Omega Boar Professional brush that is a delight to use. It cost $8.00 USD.
When I got it the bristles were a bit on the stiff and scratchy side to say the least. So.......
I did 24 hand lathers with new formula Williams. At the end the tips were nicely frayed and the brush is a good latherer with no undue irritation.
