More great pickups! You are really cornering the market in your area.Or is your search area just getting bigger and bigger?
Thistle:
Joed man wait till you shave that one, these are really, really outstanding...
I have to double check but I think they are related to Case somehow, I do know that they take a super sharp edge....
Nice score !!!!
+1 on the Thistle Cut being a great shaver! Congratulations on both of those nice razors.
That Reynolds looks a lot like the one you and Jr helped me sort out. I hope your's isn't as stubborn as mine was.
Nice finds!
There is a little miss information in my post. It's a 'Frederica", I think. The stamp is worn at the end of the name but I think it ends with an 'a' and three is no room for Reynolds at the end?? Also it's a 6/8s. Sorry for the size error and the name is still an issue. I think. Gotta check it out better later tonight or tomorrow.
I was thinking of saving the honing for the meet, but maybe I'll hone it tomorrow just in case it is stubborn.
Thanks Glen. I was going to ask about the steel origin. Besides the name the only markings are New York, U.S.A. I was going to hone it up tonight and use it for my big 4th shave tomorrow. I recently read a post asking about American steel over 6/8s. I'll have to look for it and mention this straight in the post. It is a full 7/8s and I can't wait to take it for a spin! Got this one for the price of a Happy Meal and it's in really great condition after cleaning.
It's possible you've got the same alternate stamping as mine. Though most I've seen do say "Frederick Reynolds" on them, mine says
Frederick's
Celebrated Razor
Sheffield
If I've still got mine around come meet time, I'll bring it along so we can compare. At the least, I'll be sure to get a good photo of the tang.
Now that is quite possible. I didn't know that they used Fredrick's as a stamp. Guess I will hone that one tomorrow and see how long it takes. Hopefully the stubbornness of your razor was an exception and not the rule, like the Geneva we played with that one day.
Those thistle cuts take a fantastic edge. I honed one for somebody and I had to fight myself to send it back to them, an awesome shave!
It was a quiet day today so I broke out the light box. Here are some better pics of the two.
Joed man please tell me if you EVER decide to part with that Thistle you let me know.....
:deal:
I'm quite sure he won't part with the Thistle Cut!
It is one of a kind.
I don't know about one of a kind but you are right, I won't be parting with this blade. Especially after my first shave with it yesterday, Wow!! It's not that I won't sell just this blade, but any of my blades, almost. I am very selective in what I buy and as a general rule, don't sell any of them. That said, I did pick up a lot of 30 blades a short while ago. Some fit my style, some not, but all good blades. I sold one blade out of the lot and have another pending. I may part with a few more but I don't think so.
In any event, if I ever do think of selling it Glen will be the first to know. :tu
Absolutely wonderful blade! Eugh, why can I never find razors like this? :boohoo:
I just got one of these. There are no marks on the tang (at first glance, I haven't cleaned it yet. The lettering on the scales looks identical to the one posted here. Does anyone have information on these razors?
I'll post pics when I get a chance, just got it yesterday.
Nice! I think itīs a Frederickīs, Iīve got one thatīs pretty close to yours.

I hope to get it looking as nice as the others posted here.
Wish me luck.
I think Joe is like Wayne on Chasing Classic Cars. He and his marvelous henchwoman will go anywhere, do anything to obtain the world's finest razors. Once back in their lair, they transform those razors into perfect shaving instruments, causing mortals like myself to foam at the mouth and twitch a lot. They're diabolical, I'll tell ya.
