Antique Store finds

Just found these 4 at an antique store.. from top to bottom.

1. Bausch & Lomb Optical Made in Germany pins are tight but has a small chip out of the heel.
2. Torrey almost no issues with this one pins are tight and it grabs in a thumb pad test so going for a shave test later in the week.
3. This is a local one Tolhuizen & Mersek Kalamazoo MI
4. Denfi 34 on one side and soligen on the other. There is a small bit of rust on the back I need to clean.

great thing is my SWMBO was with me and told me to by all of the razors ( they had 3 more than these but they were in much worse condition ).

The Torrey looks great! That's a Wester Bros. De Fi, and they are good razors too. The Bausch & Lomb optical razor is probably a microtome and not good for shaving, due to the combination of flat grind on one side and hollow grind on the other. Nice bag!

Thanks Croaker you are correct it is a Wester Bros and I was not sure what the squiggle was between the De fi was.
I just checked the B&L and it may have been regound because both sides are hollow. The box does say Microscopic Sectioning Razor. Not a big deal only paid 8 bucks for each razor so not out a lot. Going to clean it up and see what happens.

Lucky if it was reground-you might have a great shaver with an unusual provenance. Can't be too many Bausch and Lomb straight razors out there. Only way to know is hone it up and shave..please let us know.

Well I just shaved with the B&L.. it is currently the larges blade I own. I sanded it a little to clean off a little rust/patina. I then set the bevel and then honed it ( this was the 2nd razor I ever honed ) stropped it this morning and shaved with it tonight.

I now see what the fuss is for the big blades. I love the way this shaves. I will have to start watching for larger blades now.

What great luck! and good honing, too. I agree with you personally about getting better shaves from the larger blades, but neck area is a bit more of a challenge to get a wide blade down to a narrow angle against the skin.
