    Default My First Razor Hunt

Im new to straight razor shaving, and like all things i do, I've jumped in head first. after about a month now of shaving with my straight, all i do is sit around waiting for my beard to grow. with that said, ill get to the point. yesterday i raided every estate sale and antique store i could get to (about 15) and i managed to select these 4 from the dozen i saw. i chose what i liked rather than by name or what not simply because I'm not familiar with all that yet. from left to right in the first photo... Union Razor Cutlery Co., Spangenberg's Blue Steel Seattle Wash., Krusius Brothers KB Extra #36, And Wester Bros Anchor Brand "manganese Steel"

Ive been able to find info on all but the Spangenberg. Does anyone have any info on this one? even the few I've found online don't look like this one. also is there any way to date these?
id love some feedback on these. thanks

I also happened to get a commitment from a lady working at a vintage shop to bring me two "really old possible 1800's razors with ivory scales" to look at and figure out what a fair price for them would be. so ill be posting those as soon as i get my anxious mits on them.

Im really excited to work my way up to restoring these.

Thanks for the response guys. I plan to continue searching for old razors... Any suggestions for razors to keep an eye out for?

Depends on your tastes Blade heft is good most of the time, cheap steel tends to feel lite. Deep corrosion or active rust is a good thing to walk away from unless the price is low enough that the parts are worth the expence. As for name brands... To many to list and way to many unknown razors out there of high quality, have a look in the SPR Wiki and you will see many good razors that only a few have seen, you never know what your going to find at the next shop

I watch for early razors as I'm not much interested in the modern (post 1900) razor styles. There is a thread on Ebay 101 for what to look for physically but that is assuming you can't get the blade in hand. I hunt antique shops so I can get a feel for the blade in question, if i go ebite I start getting real picky and cheap, I bid low enough so that if the blade is crappy I don't get hurt much on the parts.
