I am not in a good place right now!
oh man sorry to hear that, i did do something similar to that at one point a while ago, don't remember what i was trying to do but it cracked from the sharp edge down to the spine but didnt make it through the spine. not quite as bad as yours but it was still useless
:gaah: I haven't done that, but I feel for ya!! Tempered steel no like to bend!! Sorry man!!
Howard :(
Oh god no.... no..... noooooooo!
:gth
Oh my God. Such a nice looking blade, too. Really unfortunate.
If I had one of those I'd send it to you, wish I had one.
Send it to Mr. Sprecher, get him to record all dimensions or make a mold for it, melt it down and remake the same razor with the same steel??? I don't even know if that's possible or affordable.
It is a live and learn world. Fortunately it is filled with second chances, there are other blades just like it out there. Like many things in life it is better to work with the nature of the beast than to try and make it perfect. My condolences.
Thing is I got it at a antique shop. a friggin' 8/8 for $40....

Wonder how much it would be to do that?
How would I get in touch with him?

UGH! I feel your pain.
Can you make a frame back for it?
That would be another learning experience.
Oh man, sorry to see that. :(
I wouldnt mess with trying to fix it at this point. The thrill of a new hunt awaits.
You have my condolences. Would you care to share the method you were using to straighten the spine so I don't have to learn the hard way?
Bob
Eye Caramba!!! Sorry that happened. I've never seen anything like that before.
Well I was reading on how to straighten blades and I put it in a vice, had two pieces of round stock behind and one piece in front to make a triangle.
closed the vice to try and "tweek" the blade back into place.
Guess I "TWEEKED" it a bit too much.
I would not wish this on my worse enemy....
You quote mocks me now: "No man is totally useless, they can always be used as a bad example."
LOL
Sorry bro - that sucks!
ouch !! srry to see that .. !!
i was looking at a thread with directions on straightening a blade with heat ... i determined id just read it and leave it at that ..
:(
I was afraid you would say that was the method you used. I have used it twice on tangs but never on the spine of a razor. I just put enough pressure on to hold the rig in place and then just the tiniest fraction of a turn on to add just a tiny amount of pressure. Left it at that for a bit and the repeated adding just the tiniest amount more of pressure and left it at that for a bit and so on. I don't think you can do the whole correction in one shot because of the tempering. I also found you had to slightly over correct because as the pressure came off it would want to return a little from memory in the steel. I guess I got lucky and possibly the tang does not have as much tempering as the blade itself. Always feared what happened to you would happen to me when doing that. At any rate I am very sorry it had to happen to you and with such a nice blade to boot.
Chiefy gave me that line when I mucked up an evolution onboard ship and I never forgot it. Every time I screw up, and that is frequently, I take comfort in his words.

If you ain't fail'n, you ain't trying. I stopped keeping quiet about the stupid things I've done - hoping some new guys can avoid my foolishness. To learn, you have to make mistakes. At least you're in there swinging. Keep it up.
ChevHead, I think the tang would look good on a keychain.,,,,Really.
Thanks pinklather.
I figured we have seen all the success that everyone has done with BEAUTIFUL restores and Custom work, maybe it was time for a WHOOPS I REALLY MESSED UP thread!
Like you said, If this will help ONE person from doing it to their razor, it was worth it!
Ed
I keep ending up back on this thresd...
guys
I can only cry so much...
wish I could make it go away...
...And here I am again,
My 11 year old has even made comment our condolences are yours,
If there is anything we can do Please do not hesitate to ask,
We understand nothing can replace or take the place of your loss but we are here whatever we can do...
Seriously I thank you for putting this up and to be honest would like a bit more detail,
Luck of the draw, seems like. Naw I am am a thick headed perfectionist determined to keep screwing up till I get being a screw up right. Hasn't happened yet, still got quite a ways to go. Seriously though, isn't just incredible how little pressure it takes to have an oooops. Not like being a millwright where can you snug it up till the bolt snaps then back it off 1/2 a turn and call her done. Done that too, wasn't much of a mw helper either it turns out. Ya gotta cheer up.
