Default Straight Razor DB app for Android - official beta tests and releases!

OK - I am finally in a position to release a version of this app for beta testing!

If you wish to take part in the beta test, please observe the following steps:

    1) Add a reply below so I can see who is actually involved - it needn't say anything more than "testing" or something like that.
    2) Download the .apk from the second post in this thread. You will need to allow "side loading" on your device for now. This should be an option under "Security" in Settings. If it's different for your device then Google is your friend here. Install the .apk and get testing.
    3) Report any bugs or problems that you find in this thread.

Stable releases will be made available via Google Play and the third post in this thread. The reason for posting them here is simply for users of devices such as Kindle Fire which don't use Google Play. I have no intention of making this app available on any other "market/store". If you find it anywhere other than Google Play, then it's a fake version.

The stable release will be available for free and ad free - I'm just that generous.

OK - about the app itself. This app takes all the data in the SRP Straight Razor Database and aggregates it into an app. This is only the SR Database and not any other wiki information, although that may be an option for a future release.

The first screen you will encounter is a list of all manufacturers listed on the SRP wiki. If you select one of those then you will see a screen with a list of all razors made by that manufacturer, as well as the manufacturer itself. Upon selecting one of those, you will be taken to a screen containing all the content on the wiki, with the option to open that item in a browser.

There was one fairly difficult issue I encountered. Initially, all images were displayed far too large for a normal phone screen. I fixed this using a setting within the Android API, but, unfortunately it is deprecated. This means that this setting may be removed in a future version of Android and this app will no longer work properly on any device running that version.

My only hope for this is to create some code which will pull the data from the wiki and do all formatting work myself. This will look fine, but will be prone to breaking if the wiki layout is altered. I decided to go with the first option for this release and then the second option will be implemented in a later release.

I think that's all you need to know for now. Please feel free to make feature requests in this thread, as well as bug notices. No new features will be implemented before the first stable release, but it will be useful to get your ideas for future versions.

I hope all that makes sense!
