What are you trying to edit?

The title can only be edited by mods/developers/admins.

The editing option for a post is only avaliable for a certain amount of time, don't remember exactly how long, 3-4 days or something like that.

As Zephyr stated, the edit button is to the left of the "reply" button.

If you cannot get to edit, a certain time has elapsed so that it becomes the permanent domain of SRP.

If you can't edit it then you can PM a Mod and ask them to do it for you if it's warranted. It's really not all that difficult.
