Not sure how many people know this, or are even FB users, but SRP does have a Facebook page also.

Stop by and become a member there too, many of us are in both places :)

My friends think I'm crazy that I don't have Facebook..... This is maybe another reason to get it...... Maybe.
Naw...
Stay sane and just stay here.
:)
My misses set me up with Facebook years back. Don't use it much, although it is handy for another way to see if the kids are still breathing when they forget to call and are out on a tear..
Seems their phones are 'dead' when asked to check in, but have battery life for selfies with the gang that they post up to their pages..lol..
The SRP page is another great spot to post your most memorable SOTD's as well as chatting with fellow members.
:beer1:
Sorry, not really interested in Facebook.
Bob
I didn't know it existed. I just sent a request to join the group.
Not on FB much but when I am I'll join up. I like the forums better. Not as open to the folks that like to argue about things ya know
Damn, what I should have said was, what the hell is Facebook?
It's great I really enjoy our Facebook group great place to hang out.
Not doing this forum any good IMHO. :td
Quite the opposite. There are lots of "lost"souls" on FB that are being fed tons of misinformation by the "experts", so more helpful advise and redirection to the forum are great for us. A lot of folks over there are oblivious about the existence of SRP.com . There is also tons of haters, mainly the GD selling clique, that spreads lots of hate against us. We need all the help we can get.
I'd like to think that as well, but in practice I don't see that happening. There is only so much time in the day, and only so much time a person can spend on forums and social media. Before FB there was more action here. Some of the leading members that used to post here almost never do anymore, but seem to be on FB all of their waking hours.
I don't understand how the Facebook page could harm this forum. 90 or more percent of the Facebook posts are SOTD. Their isn't any detailed content there. I spend much more time on the forum than Facebook and learn a lot here.
Yeah that's the scurge of FB, people get on there and don't go anywhere else with their time.
Heck some people live their every waking hour on there
I just joined the SRP Facebook group. Is there more to it than SOTD pics? I know on my smart phone certain sites look different than the PC format and I can miss content or features.
Yes,, but the real difference is that is is very fluid..
The questions and answers are not in a "Thread" format so they tend to drop down on the feed pretty fast, then they will bump back up when somebody posts their opinions again :)
The SOTD are happening pretty fast so you see a ton of them
So, I can be on Facebook and SRP? I'm going to need some time to process this.
Prophetic of what will happen here perhaps ?
FB is addictive for some people. I would suspect that most, like me, have way more than SRP. Most have a handful of FB 'groups' they belong to, which are always posting and refreshing new stuff on their 'feed.'
So it is almost like cocaine which always leaves the addict desiring more stimulation. FB will furnish that with the continual postings from groups, family, friends, news, who and whatever the person has 'friended' comes onto their feed (screen)
Well sure, but the same addiction could be satisfied here if we ramped up SRP participation.
:deal:
I believe JimmyHAD has it right. FB provides frequent new stimulation and we all like that.
At the same time I believe that FB is a "fad/flash in the pan/temporary type of thing. It's weakness is that their is no depth on a subject matter and no permanency of knowledge. Therefore I think that for the subjects where depth is important the forums will always be the primary resource.
At this point in time I am actively "unfollowing" groups and people on FB because it is so superficial and I have to many of them. There are other things I want to do with my time, one of which is getting back to contributing to SRP. :)
There was a time when I visited the National Center for Supercomputer Applications at the University of Illinois to discuss the possibility of consulting or working with them. I made the wrong decision and referred to it as a "fad/flash in the pan/temporary type of thing." Mosaic resulted and led to Netscape which became the core of internet browsing. Shortly thereafter, newsgroups began with 30 or so groups and grew to 70,000 or so. Toward the latter end of that growth Facebook began and became what it is today --- the dominant path to the internet.
For the last few years, several folks have been searching for what would come next and there have been several notable failures. Facebook is here to run its course.
Randy is spot on when he writes of facebook "It's weakness is that their is no depth on a subject matter and no permanency of knowledge."
But unless there is a clear and easy place to this and other forums from the most widely used internet tool, I think places like SRP could wither away and die from the absence of new blood.
I think that was at the core of what Glen intended when he posted. The group here can play a massive role in keeping SRP alive and providing the library of subject matter and knowledge.
Just my take.
