He's coming for us!! We should pick up the pace for a bit again.
You know, just to keep him down;)

I will continue to post as i do. Most post are worthless but now and then i get lucky. Ha. I dont think about post count very much. I just try to help other when i can. But, i will say that maybe i post a bit more than most. I got to do something when im standing doing nothing but watching gas flow thru a hose.
???
English please.
I’m surprised I’m on the first page actually.
Some of you gents span all the threads, keep the entire site lively.
Me, I just lurk in the workshop and bbq threads mostly.
These days, reading far more than posting..
Enjoyed watch8ng your scale skills develop Jerry. Was a fast progression into nice looking stuff.
:tu
There are threads that I will stumble upon and simply read but will not comment.
Often because I know too little of the particular subject and am still learning to shut up, sometimes because my contribution would simply echo what others had already said so I just like and thank.
But sometimes I feel like a new member chiming in where it's not his place, like at Thanksgiving dinner at a friend's house..
In regard to the rift that happened when I was gone, I'll say that it was a very terrible feeling to type in SRP into the address bar and find that this special place was gone.
Very terrible feeling.
When I realized you were all still here I shouted out loud, YES!
Sometimes I'm a bit of an idiot, say stupid things, still learning that old saying "Don't miss a good opportunity to shut up"... in the end I realize why we are here. A common interest that brings us together, and through that some great friendships are gained.
As far as number of posts, I admit that I've looked at likes and thanks for a feeling of my own acceptance, but I shouldn't.
But the number of posts, I usually see those high numbers and think "dang this guy is a veteran of the craft".
And the years active, as a brotherhood I feel that I'm a little late on.
Hopefully my life allows me more time with you gentlemen, and hopefully you can put up with me long enough to get past my quirks.
Sorry that was so long!
Ok well let’s not forget that the names on that page are only the names of men who have posted in the last 6 months. Who knows what would happen if we had all the greats from the past like edhewitt back on the list.
Wait! No, you’re still there one the first page just below 10Pups. I miss that guy!
https://straightrazorpalace.com/memb...rt=posts&pp=50
I’m last on the page at 50!! I better start yapping before gasman puts me on page two lol!
We are truly a living and vibrant community. Some people have been here from the beginning, others have just joined, some have taken short or extended breaks, some have left and don't think they'll ever return.
But it's a special place, where as Harold said everyone is welcome like at the family table.
What brought us here is our shared hobby, but I think that's not what keeps us here. I think what binds us is our values and sharing our lives with each other :)
It's fun to look at numbers but I know that everyone is here because they enjoy being here and that's what's important. Some post a lot, others read a lot, some check in on occasion, others daily or even hourly. To me it's all good since each of us is unique and in a unique situation - this is what makes each of us irreplaceable, why we need each other and why together we make a community that's better than any of us alone :)
If you are reading a thread concerning something you know not much about and feel too intimidated to post, remember a question you may have is probably on the minds of who knows how many other members or lurkers and either they can't post or won't for one reason or another.
So the point is, at one time everyone here was totally ignorant about everything related to straights and wet shaving and we all had to learn from the bottom up. When I started these sites didn't exist and I wish they had.
So, ask question and fear not.
What didnt i understand? All of it. Im no english teacher and far from being able to spell and write complete sentences, but that was beyond my understanding. Caps all over the sentence just thru me off big time.
Mike T. I feel sometime when a newbie asks a question and if the first guy that answers him is right on the money, than i will commend with agrement. I think this give the OP more convidence that the answer to his question was a good one and not just the ranting of one person. I do still think i need to hold my tongue more often but it so fun to post. Most the time im just trying to help. Other times ...
Harold, that was a great thing to say and i feel the same way. Hell, ive been accepted here and feel i have some good brothers that i feel close to and have never met. I hope to fix that some day. You folks are very close to me.
Im still only #38 on the list. Damn!
And thanks Mikeb52. I just dont know when to quit. Although honing kicked me to the curb a lot of times before i really understood what the hell i was doing
IT's cool, Jerry...I have so many posts because I am ridiculously consistent. :roflmao
I have learned a great deal in my membership here.
Point is to join in and get some posts in exactly like you have done. The fact you are a mentor here speaks volumes.
All about learning and having fun! :tu
Active membership likely ebbs and flows. Its certainly true that a lot of people got lost when the "palace" happened. I myself had no idea, as my links were all dead, so I just stopped looking. It was quite some time before I found the site running again.
I also dont post as often anymore, because honestly, I grew weary of it. The same questions asked, that had been answered a dozen times before, and the amazing responses are ignored because they are all too.... I dont know..lazy? unaware? .... to do a search.
That, and some members that just piss me off to no end, making me not even want to come in any more. From some acting like experts, to seeing members selling razors on ebay, feigning ignorance of condition, makes me despondent and lose faith in the "community" Are we truly gentlemen if our code of conduct only extends to members, and not the world around us?
I'll keep showing up sporadically, until I wind up in the "Hall of Remembrance" But I'm willing to bet my Riga that post counts dont always "count" (insert suitable emoji here)
Well, I appreciate you AND your posts, Steve!
You speak your mind, which is a good and knowledgeable one. Telling it as it is is important. You always do that.
Seems we are what we are now. Thanks for stopping in as you can. It helps us all.
A member selling on Ebay and acting like he knew nothing? I think that would piss me off too. I think id have to have a chat with him and his wrong doings. That is just not right!
As far as the Mentor bit, Tom. I think you guys just needed someone to clean the bathroom and st9ck the beer in the fridge. "Hey, let see if Jerry will do it". :whipped:
I Simply gave you what you asked for, now you need to implement it into your codeQuote:
Qick, someone write a program and enter all the info. That shouldn't take long, right?
The information your looking for is already here, so all we need to to is pull it from a database that it is in , and organize it
so without know in the specific names given to the database table or its fields, I gave you pseudo code( an outline of what would happen using whatever programming language you decide to use.)
Well, i guess i should say thanks for the code? For my program? Now if i only had a clue what to do with it. I bet it has something to do with one of those areas in my computer that I made off-limits to myself so i dont screw things up.
What are you waiting for Jerry? It seems simple enough and you just put it in your computer......
A little help with this please. So i write it down on paper, stuff it down in the bottom of my coffee cup and put it on the retractable cup holder. Ok, but its too big at that point to retract and go in the computer. Maybe im missing something.
Ya hafta "write click" on the screen
Write click. Got it. Thanks! I knew a computer guy would come along and help me out. :rofl2:
Well.....I am flattered to be considered one of the most attractive members here.
TBH, I have never had that distinction! :p
I do not talk a lot or post a lot, when I have something to add to the conversation I post. There are so many knowledgeable people here, that it is not often I have something to say that has not already been said.
Watch out! I am a chatterbox.
I also don't post much if at all as of late and it isn't because of forum politics or any of that jazz. One factor is maybe I feel I might of said the same thing over and over to the point of beating the dead horse. The biggest reason I feel less connected with the going ons of this forum is mainly the dreaded Tapatalk support removal. Due to my typical style of interacting with forums in general which is 90 percent in a mobile capacity. And no the mobile version of this forum isn't cutting it in my opinion. Maybe one day this may change and I bet there are a lot of folks like myself out there with a similar mind set.
I too don't care for the mobile version, that's why I use the full site, in my phone. I will say this much, Tapatalk was great for us phone guys. It was much faster, could post pictures with ease, as well in PM's. And used less power to do so. But I'm comfortable with the full site, now
Yep, What Mike Said. Sure it would be nice, but the full site version is also what I use on my phone. Its easier to deal with than the mobile version.
I don't know if you guys have tried the 'responsive' style. It's supposed to be more mobile friendly and adjust between desktop and mobile device. You switch it at the bottom left of the page:

We'll have to update our software sometime in the near future and it may be better for mobile devices, but I am thinking it'll be after the new year.
We can think again about tapatalk too, but as I've posted before their terrible record with security made it a lot of maintenance and I could no longer afford to do it nor do I know anyone else who would do it for free. But things change so nothing is permanent.
In that mode if you click on Quick Links it takes you to paid subscriptions because tbe buttons are on top of each other. This was the first issue i found with it and gave it up.
There will be pictures in PMs once we update the software, at least this much I can promise :)
Ah, right. I think I can trim that navigation to fewer items, but I am not sure if I can look into in the next two weeks. But if you remind me in say mid December I may be able to improve it.
The mobile version is almost OK, but there are 3 things it lacks that prevent me from using it: "Thanks" and "Like" buttons at the bottom of each post, and "Mark Forums Read" Button in the header of the page. Besides the "New Posts" button in the header sometimes there, and sometimes not (beats me how and why).
So IMHO these very small additions can make the mobile version actually pretty usable.
I've always used the full site on my phone. Only rarely use a computer.
In the mobile site, I have never really tried it. Can't get passed the look. It's like coming home to find all the furniture and pictures gone, the "feel" is all wrong.
Don't like it at all.
Perfectly fine with how it is but would like to PM pics.
