Chaps,

The same picture shown in two different orientations showing the equivalence of the slicing motion (1st) and the guillotine motion (2nd).

Nice pics! Those would be quite helpful I would think. Just make sure there's a note that says to use extreme caution, because more forward than down = good size slice into your skin :chop:
I find that doing a guillotine motion (I'd not known that was what it was called) with the heal leading is a bit more comfortable for me, and makes me feel safer when I do it.
Perfect. We're working on Advanced shaving techniques for the straight razor - Straight Razor Place Wiki already :)
One thing that I think confuses people is the term "scythe". This is because most people associate a scythe with an arcing motion. But the characteristic that makes a scythe effective is not the arcing motion. The key characteristic is that the blade is at an angle to the motion. Note that an ax or hatchet is also swung in an arc but this does not result in any slicing action -- the blade still hits the target head on.
if u guys want animated ones that demonstrate the sweeping motion let me know, id be glad to do it but im not gonna do it if its not wanted
:)

smaller slower?
i can take time and make it a bit better, with text ro arrows or whatever..... just let me know if u want it.
*use unfreez to make .gif's. just drag em into the window.
use irfanview to extract images from already made .gif's/
i could make the animation Match the other exactly, using the same razor image.
how about a face behind the razor? that would be cool!
I like it a lot, face or no face. But arrows would be helpful, I think.
ok what ill do id, extract the image from the scything animation, rotate it to the right palce, and then reanimate with straight arrows to emphasize the stroke, ill make a few different ones, because sometimes the animations look a different speed to me.
Sterling stuff. Much looking forward to it. Thanks for your support!

what i got so far. needs some fine tuning and arrows if u want....
slower?
I don't think I have the balls to pull off that stroke !
these are really easy to make, imaybe ill make athread ... but you just click edit_paste from in MSpaint, pick your pic, postion where you want, save as .gif, and then drag them into the Unfreez program in whatever order u choose.
a 10 year old could do it i swear! super easy, and the program is Tiny.... like 400 kb tiny.
UnFREEz 2.1 - WhitSoft Development
i might make how to animate tutorialm then u guys can do this to whatever u want.
you can practicly make mini powerpoint presentations on them
Speed's a bit high, isn't it? :) With the hand in place, I don't think we'll need arrows.
And you might find GIMP - Simple Animations interesting.
I see superfly (nenad) on the razor. is he ok with us manipulating his images?
Those are cool. I think the direction and angle shown by Texas Bob is still the most genuine scything stroke.
It might be a good idea to have a true original scything stroke seperated by all of our modern versions of the same stroke . . .
and since its scything I'd make it waaaaaaay slower. You don't want anyone replicating the speed of the stroke by accident.
like i was sayin these animations look different to me.....
u guys want it slower?
ive already got 1 made thats the same but slower...
any other changes need made?
i didnt make the scything one, i copied the image from that to make my "guillotine" animation, which on my screen is moving about as fast as i do, but i have a slower one on my other comp ill up in a minute...
i could add letters that say "be careful!!"

slower... if its too choppy i can add frames,
need feedback to improve
i like the little scale remnant towards the end of the stroke, adds emphasis to the straightnes i think.
its really just to demonstrate the direction of the stroke, not teach you to master it
Good stuff. Speed's okay. A few more frames wouldn't hurt. And I find the scale mutation a bit disconcerting. Thanks!
I'll offer feedback
fantastic
can we get one leading the heal?
if this is advanced shaving then maybe a heal leading as the SAFE version would be a nice idea to start them on the concept?
ok yea i can do that...............
heres my IDEA
i can video myself atually making the strokes, on my face. and then snag the frames and make an animation like this but with real hand razor and face, no cartoon, no manual manipulation, just images from a vid looped.
i think Xmans vid was Excellent quality, if he makes the strokes needed, i could use his vid and whip these all out tonight when i gett off work, with his permission ofcourse, since its his Face
Good job:tu
