A call to ARP admins and developers:
Any thoughts on developing an app for the iPhone (or Blackberry or other)?
Would be cool to get access to SRP while on the go :tu
Just a thought.

I know nothing about apps for iphones, but I am pretty sure there are guys accessing SRP with said phones already. Not sure how, I guess maybe there is a web interface?? Or maybe that is just the chat I am thinking of...??
James.
Hi James...you are right. A web interface is common, but is a pain to do on smart phones, IMO...it's not as nice as the computer web interface. That's why most banking and other websites that reply on people being on the web (when on the go) have developed simple apps to get people to get to and stay on their sites.
But, that's purely my opinion.
An app would be nice
Its been talked about before here. Theres some good points in there and talk about other ways of accessing the site on an iPhone.
I often find myself logging onto SRP on my Blackberry to read new posts and gather information.
I use my Blackberry all the time for SRP. Works great.
Not exactly the same as being on a PC, but pretty damn good.
Could probably come up with a handheld stylesheet, providing a more leaner experience on mobile devices. Depending on the device, some devices will ignore the stylesheet and render the site as is. Switching the stylesheet depending on the visitors browser would prob be a more robust option.
I read the articles through an RSS feed which is nice and lean on my android :-)
Maybe I am missing something. Are we talking about a reduced content feed for a smartphone that doesn't have a browser or something else entirely?
This is what I get on my phone, which I assume is what most people get if they are using a browser.

Bill,
I don't know...just an application that's easy to use without having the hassle of dealing with a browser on a smartphone...for example, some banks have applications to access your online banking needs, send money. For example PayPal even has a simple iPhone app that is very easy to use, send money and track your account without a browser. Login is easy, access is easy, interface is easy...things like that.

Being a PC Engineer and many years in the IT world since I was a teenager...I know for sure there are various great shave sites other than SRP...and people want apps for their sites..problem is..if its an iphone app
( I use a iphone 3gs as well) people who want to make iphone apps are tied down to using Apple programming tools ONLY..though soon enough apple will be lifting those restrictions allowing people who make iphone apps to use their own 3rd party apps...hope this helps!

Get Cloud Browse for your iphone..free in the apps store...kinda slow even with my 3gs..supports flash and Java-Yay!...log into the Chat if you like..works ok..but good luck typing and not missing any letters though..OS4 is out end of June..HTML5 should be in the works with many websites

About 25% of my access and interaction here on SRP is via my iPhone. I'm not sure how an app would make it any easier. The other 75% of my access is via iPad.
You don't really need an app for an iPhone, and unless it's going to have some special features not available from a computer it would be kind of pointless. I use my iPhone for 90% of browsing and then only use my computer to upload photos. It's almost the same thing, all content is the same and it's set up the same way.
Well...if you ever wanna log into the live chat..then you need Cloud-Browse works very well..its free for iphone

Some of the forum sites I frequent have a special mobile site. The server can detect weither you're on a pc or mobile device and direct you to the appropriate one. The mobile one is short on the details of the full website. I think that would be the better solution than having an iPhone app (even though I'm writing on an iPod).
well having a iphone app would push members against a good media mobile
But i still prefer a good and much cheaper phone so maybe phone, but no thanx to ifone spesific
Flash and java aernt an option easily gotten yet on the iPhone cloudbrowse has these 2 features abd if u like accessing this sites live chat then it's worth it
IRC works a little different then cloudbrowse..worth a try!

Tapatalk - Forum App on the iPhone, Android, Nokia, and BlackBerry for vBulletin, phpBB, IPBoard, and SMF makes a plugin for forums that has apps for blackberries android nokia and iphone
I know it is not an iphone, but using the forums from my simple Touch Pro 2 with signatures disabled works really well.....
I think we talked about tapatalk in the past and decided it could DIAF. With some of the stuff we are working on behind the scenes, I would not look for too many changes to the current setup.
SRP doesnt exist in this tapatalk free version program search...
