I realize everyone here will probably have different answers but I use a nice badger brush not real expensive like a parker $40-60 brush and soap that is nothing really special price wise but I do like a soap and not a cream anyway but I get a nice lather and am always happy with how the combination performs.

World of difference between the two. The switch does not have to be expensive to start out, a Van-der german word. at walmart can be a good start. the soap is like two bucks and the brush for 4 is a good start and works well. If you have a little money to spend you can go better.I wouldn't rule out E-bay for cheep also. Just because it is expensive doesn't mean its better. Arco stick is one of the best soaps I have ever used (but many do not like the smell) and I paid 75 cents for a stick and I have a burma shave brush that was 2 bucks at a drug store and it builds a fine lather.
