Thanked: 0should i move to fancier creams/soaps?
I currently use generic shaving creams/gels that you find at any store in a pressurized can. I was wondering what different I would see if I were to buy a brush/mug and a higher end cream/soap compared to what im using right now. I havnt decided between a cream and a soap, but anything other than the current cheap stuff I guess. I guess you could say, I'm trying to see if its worth making the upgrade.

you can get a brush and cream for dirt cheap as well. the canned stuff is synthetic chemicals that actually dry your face

Thanked: 1160That's like asking is there a difference between Spam and a porterhouse steak. The answer is ........yup. I am going to be biased foe a moment, because I just became a follower of Semogue Boar brushes. Extremely affordable, won't shed hairs, very well made attractive boar brushes. A different experience from badger brushes but every bit as nice. Get a nice mug or bowl and again I will be biased. for a nice starter soap that won't break the bank...classic shaving makes their own brand of puck soap with many nice scents to choose from. 5.99 for their biggest size. makes good lather. If you like it, then try other soaps....but you will notice a difference right away. Throw that evil canned stuff away !

Firstly I would say yes.
Secondly I would say that I haven't used canned stuff or gel for probably 18-20 years, so maybe it has got better.
Thirdly I would say that a cheap brush (something I used happily for all but the last few months of those years) and a stick of Palmolive (or equivalent) will set you back less than $15. So give it a try.
Fourthly I would say that if you are happy with, and get good results from what you already use, keep doing it, unless you fancy a change.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 498I.M.H.O. I think at the very least it will up your enjoyment dramatically by giving you better scents, better peformance, and a better shaving quality end result as well. The only down side is that the "Good Stuff" usually costs a little bit more, but you are certainly worth it arent you????

Thanked: 1195I switched to a brush & soap back in my cartridge razor days, and I remember a definitely improvement in my shave even with the dreaded cartridge. So yes, making the switch would be a wise choice that you will not regret.

Thanked: 3225I would say it would be an improvement once you learned how to create a good lather with a brush and soap.

I would say yes. Shaving became so much more enjoyable when I switched. And you can do it on a budget. I've been wet shaving a year and still use a van der hagen brush. I would steer clear of Williams. Though ymmv. I didn't have fun. And when I switched to proraso green it was like night and day.

Dither, dather,
You need good lather.
You know your goal,
Get a brush and bowl.
Sorry about that, couldn't help myself.
