Mitchell's Wool Fat (MWF)

Presentation: Brililant! Came in a nice brown carton box. Inside the bowl was further wrapped in nylon, possibly to preserve freshness and scent. Then the gorgeous, heavy porcelain bowl. It is definitely a nice addition to the bathroom. Very retro.

I would have liked the bowl to be smaller, or the puck bigger, to fit tightly like the Tabac does or many others. Figure the soap will be wobbling around inside a lot. But I wet underneath the puck and so far it stuck, wouldn't move while brushing on top of it. Nice!

Scent: Intoxicating. I look forward to using all my soaps, but this is the one that gets me into the bathroom with the biggest smile on my face. It's a faint, never over-bearing scent. But while some say it's very soapy or natural, I am thinking perfume. It's quite good.

Lather-ability: Oh boy! Maybe I should get my eyes checked, or perhaps I live in a parallel universe. What's with the lathering controversy? London hard water, a normal badger brush, a few swirls on the puck and lather! Is it possible that there are old(er) pucks and new(er) productions and that it changes/hardens over time? I do NOT see an issue at all. It is just like my Tabac or Proraso, true not like a shaving cream that just produces explosions of lather, but it's great!

Okay, it is a bit thirsty. And dries out a little fast. But just keep adding droplets of water and all is well.

Performance: I found it to be quite protective from the blade. Gives good cushion and you can adjust the consistency with water.

I have never shaved and had my skin so soft and face supple afterward. I thought maybe it was a new AS I got recently, so I tried it with different combinations of blades and AS. It's amazing, no razor burn, no red skin, I'm not even getting irritation from my shirt collars as I usually do.

Conclusion: If you haven't tried it yet, BUY IT NOW!

While this soap took awhile to grow on me, after using it the last several times I've really grown to appreciate what a stellar soap in fact it is. Took a couple of months, never had any problem lathering it, but it just never really lived up, as far as I'm concerned, to all the hype.

After using it for two shaves recently, I came to realize what a great soap it is, and how it left my face feeling great - love that lanolin!

Could not agree more with your thoughts on MWF. I never found it hard to lather, it is hard to add too much water to it as it just loves water and few other soaps leave my face felling as nice. Yea, great soap, glad it worked so well for you.

I would love to try this soap, but have had a bad go of overbearing scents lately. I'm more of a MDC Fougere level of scent or not much more than that. So can someone describe the scent? or compare the scent maybe to another soap they've used?

I've heard Mikes Natural soaps compared to MWF once (performance), would this be a true?

No idea how to describe MWF scent other than to say I hardly notice it and it less pungent than MdC regular scented to me. Not strong at all to me.

It's very faint, to the extent that by mid-shave I stop sensing it and try to lather more under my nose to bring it back.

I personally like the smell. It's clean, soapy.. I want to say like Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo but that wouldn't be accurate. Maybe Prada Infusion would go along with it.

As I've said before what's not to like. Great review very fair.

As an aside when we lived in a village near Buxton in the Peak District one of the biggest sheep farmers in the UK had a farm just down the road. Bearing in mind he spent most of his days outside in all weathers he had the softness hands due to the lanolin in the sheep's coats which transferred on handling them to vaccinate or give them some other treatment.

It smells like dryer sheets to me...nice clean smell!

Just had my first experience with MWF yesterday! I would have to say that it is one of my favorites so far! The smell is fresh and clean, reminds me of freshly cleaned linens and does not overpower at all. I can say that I like a nice slick lather and this lather lived up to the hype. I followed a lot of the tutorials out there for how to get the best lather from the Fat and it worked like a charm. I felt my face was much more protected than with the AoS Ocean Kelp I have been using lately. Truly a great soap!
