Default Topanga Fougère - L.A. Shaving Soap Company

Last week I stopped in Maggard Razors Shop in Adrian, MI to pick up a new shaving brush, my old brush is about 20 years old and is falling apart! Brad is awesome!! After looking at a bunch of brushes I went with one of Brads recommendations, a Simpson Colonel X2L which I'm very pleased with.

After deciding on a brush I thought I'd look around the shop and thought maybe I'd pick up a new shaving soap (I only have two in rotation - TAOS Sandalwood & MWF). After looking at bunch of different soaps I went with a jar of Topanga Fougère from L.A. Shaving Soap Company (LASSC). I have used if for three straight shaves (three different razors) and I absolutely love it!! It lathers very easily, gives a lot of cushion and provided a very comfortable shave. What worked best for me was:

    1. Add a little warm water to the jar of soap and let it soap for a short time.
    2. Dump the warm water from the jar into my shaving bowl.
    3. Use my soaked brush to whip up the soapy water a bit in the bowl.
    4. shake out the excess soapy water from the brush.
    5. Load up the brush with soap from the jar of soap.
    6. Lather face with a nice thick coating of soap and enjoy a nice clean, shave.

This soap has a great fragrance IMO which is very clean and outdoorsy and not too overpowering. I didn't realize until after I purchased and used the soap a couple times that the term fougère, as outlined on the LA Shaving Soap website, is used to describe the combined woody, floral, and herbal scents of an imagined forest floor.

I highly recommend this shaving soap and I'll be heading back to Maggards to buy another jar of soap from LASSC...perhaps the Santa Monica Bay Rum version...for weekends!!

    Damn....now I think I may have SSAD....

I have used 4 different LASS soaps (samples from Maggard's). I purchased the Woody Lavender. I like the scent as much as the TF for a lot less money.

I agree, they are excellent soaps!! Many folks compare them to Martin De Candre.

Mine was still in the old tubs. The new ones like you got are much more user friendly.
