Chiefs Energizing Shave Cream review

I didn't find this one listed so here is my review of it.
And as always YMMV.

It contains menthol, peppermint, and eucalyptus.
Water rinse between passes felt like ice water on my face.

It smells like vaporub, but not as overpowering. I hardly even noticed the scent while shaving with it. The scent also washed off or dissipated quickly after the shave.

Very slick.

Has very little cushion if any at all.

It is thin and runny. Has the consistency of warm sour cream.

It doesn't lather.
I tried it in my hands as the directions suggest with no luck. I tried face lathering with a badger brush. I tried it in a bowl with brushes and still no lather. I added more product and when that didn't work I added more water. The stuff just doesn't lather at all. It's like trying to build a lather with a preshave oil.

Shaving with a straight using it is just a bad idea. The lack of cushion means you have to be very careful and go very slow. I only did one cheek WTG and XTG and stopped because there was no way I was going ATG with it.

Shaving with a DE was mediocre. The razor glided well due to the slickness, but I had to be more careful of the angle due to the lack of cushion. I didn't get a very close shave with it. I think the oil in it was causing the hair to just lay flat instead of standing up. Surprisingly, the soap did wash out of the razor easily and not clog it up.

I didn't try it with a cartridge, but I expect it would perform as well as a regular can of goo.

So I'm not really impressed with it as shaving lather, but...

It does make an excellent menthol preshave cream. I let it sit on my face for about 5 minutes and then lathered up with Tabec and that worked out nicely. It was just like having a preshave oil on and rinsing with ice water.

It also works well to make a menthol uber lather or to give an under performing soap some glide.

Overall my opinion is that as a shave soap it isn't worth it, but as a preshave or real lather additive it is good. Considering the price, there are better and cheaper products out there.
