Savonnerie Entre Bulles et Moi : Shaving Beer Soap

Gents, I would like to review a new artisanal shaving soap made in Alma, Quebec by Entre bulles et moi. The soap is vegetal based and contains Beer!

Presentation:


The hard soap comes in a 98 g puck which is nicely packaged and fit perfectly in my shaving mug. The label on the wrapper bares the logo of the Beer it contains, Vire-Capot. The fellow does look a little like Edgar Allan Poe.

Performance:



I was very pleased with its performance.The lather was slick, cushiony and very hydrating. It doesn't explode into lather like a british triple milled soap, but producing a quality lather was quite easy with my Simpson's chubby 2 in Best Badger.The lather was long lasting and was on the light fluffy side. The razor glided very smoothly on the face, and because it is on the lighter side, allowed for a very close shave.

Scent:

The scent is very difficult to describe. It is definitely on the sweet side, with notes of coconut, spice and sandalwood. It reminded me of the smell of coconut tanning oil and johnsons and johnsons baby shampoo with notes of spice. The scent is strong on the soap and lather, but post-shave, it smelled quite nice and lingers for quite a while.

Post-shave:

The skin felt great post-shave, not drying out the face and leaving it refreshed.

Conclusion:

My most important criteria in a soap is the performance, and this one did quite well. I like how the lather doesn't evaporate quickly and was very hydrating. I wasn't crazy about the scent, but I certainly like the fact that this soap doesn't contain too many ingredients. The inclusion of beer is a nice addition, serving as a natural preservative and antibacterial agent. At 9$ canadian for a 98 g puck, I would say that this soap is fairly priced and I would imagine it should last for quite a while.
