Williams Mug

Actually, I do too. Before I found all the fancy stuff here on this forum, I was using Williams in a mug with a cheap drug store brush and my lather was just fine. It still is.

I HAVE soaked it, with just a teaspoon of water on top that is subsequently dumped in the lathering bowl, but I have found that it really offers no benefit. There is nothing unusual about my lathering method. I just soak my brush (badger or boar but I prefer boar for Williams) while I shower and then gently shake out water from the brush and then just swirl on the puck for 5-7 seconds. Sometimes I build lather in a separate mug and sometimes I face lather.

For Williams I prefer the latter. One "trick" that I do is that when I want to add water (which needs to be done with Williams) I never dip my brush into the sink water because I usually end up getting it too wet. Instead, I palm a little water into the lathering mug so that I have better control of how much water I add to the brush. Also, this allows the lather to be retained in the mug. Anyway, for face lathering, I keep wetting the brush in order to keep adding water to the lather until it is of the proper consistency. For building lather in the mug, I drop a little water in a time from my fingers, again continually adding water until I am happy with the consistency. When it is right the lather is good and long-lasting.

Its been an exciting week for shaving R&D, with Williams a part of it. My wife got me a Robert's Feats of Clay scuttle and insisted I open it early, bless her heart.

I've been soaking the Williams with enough warm water to cover it in a takealong with screw cap. After shower I use some of the Williams soak water with its citrusy citronellish smell to blend with Cremo with its tangerinish smell for a pre-shave prep. These pair so well I am creating new words or perhaps butchering old ones.

To the main Williams shave lather I add a snurdle of Cremo and more of the soak water and get a mountain of fun in this fantastic scuttle. Even the 3rd pass is hot refreshing lather. Looking forward to my Christmas Eve shave this eve.
