Default My Proraso shaving soap went bad

I keep a shaving set up in my gym bag that includes a Proraso Red.
Over the summer I skipped the gym until just recently.
Lathering up in the locker room I smelled this cheesy scent like a low dollar drug store aftershave lotion.
When I got home I compared the Red I use frequently to my gym bag one, and wow, no similarity at all in scents.
Do they go bad, or change chemically, resulting in a different fragrance?
I like the soap and I will buy more to replaced the trashed one.

Yes shave soaps and creams can go bad. Lots of factors go into what will cause it. Though in my experience it does seem to effect soft soaps more then any other soap

What factors cause them to go bad? I'm assuming heat is one of them but can't think of much else.

Contracting a soap acquisition disorder sounds a bit worrying now.

A though struck me as to the cause. The water at the gym has an odor of something like the water company might use for purification.
At home I have well water. But possibly a container of soap with the water chemicals caused a reaction, completely changing the fragrance.
