Thanks, Phranks!
You will love the Krokos, top shelf!
Great use for those little containers as well. Often wondered how to store carved up soap to share.
Neat idea!
And those are some lovely selections Tom!
Looks like someone has been doing a lot of fishing using wax worms.:D
As I sent to Tom via PM, I'm curious around what he thinks of the Osma d'Alum - the French shaving soap infused with alum.
It can be finicky in terms of lathering, has that beautiful French shaving soap smell, light, refreshing, fresh, I've never had a problem with it, not the thickest creamiest, but the way it makes the face tingle, and it really seems to tighten the skin and provide an extra amount of uber closeness.
One of the most unique soaps I've ever used, certainly not to everyone's taste, but in terms of being "out there", this one stands alone IMO.;)
You have my interest piqued on that one Phrank! Tomorrow's SOTD will be with that and my freshly-honed Electric Cutlery razor.
Those containers are from the Mexican food place down the street. As I always tip the girl a dollar on take-out, she was happy to give me some new ones.
I have been known to wash the salsa out and use them again for lots of things.
Wife gave me an Osma kit two years ago with a block of crystal, a tube of skeptic, and a container of their soap.
Thanks to Phrank's testimonial I dusted it off the other day and maybe it's simply because I am more adept at lather making than two years back but it was a nice lather, and truly, the tingle and tautness is noticeable over regular soaps.
Will look for your review!

New I could count on you Mike...:D
Osma rules!!!

Ya, I sent Phrank all my left over Tartar sauce containers. Glad he put them to use!
I think I shall review all of them right here on this thread, Mike.
I have a plethora of razors, strops, some brushes, etc, but as to lather, I have about 10 or 12.
While I probably have enough to last me my lifetime, it will be great to see about others which have quite a following.
Should be fun! :)
I'm curious what you think of the SV and the Krokos.
Johnathon sent me some SV 70th a while back. It's awesome!
It will be interesting to compare it and the Cosmo.
I have been using the MDC original for a long while and was itching to try the fougere.
Seems Tabac is not Phrank's fave? He sent a BIG chunk of that! ;)
Still, I have been wanting to try it. Lots like it!
The Krokos seems to have a cult-following these days....Cannot wait for that one!
Hairs grow so slowly.....
I've got a few that have grown back since sunday, might give that Henck 66 a go after the Jays game. :)Quote:
Hairs grow so slowly.....
Thanks Dad! I'll be careful! :)
Actually, I love Tabac, absolutely one of my favourites, and now that you mention it I forgot to send you some Acqua Di Parma shaving soap, stuff is magnificent, akin to the Tabac but far more refined to my nose. A soap I will order again without a doubt.
But as far as the Tabac, I thought I'd just order another replacement puck of Tabac, and that way I could send you half the puck I had...I personally, think Tabac is easily a Tier 1 soap, covers all the fundamentals, so good to have a far chunk of it.
As far as the Krokos...in my opinion....meh....didn't floor me, was OK.
I also meant to send you some XPEC, but there's always next time...soaps...I got 'em...Phranky darn loves those soaps and creams and croaps....:o
Tabac is in my top tier too, and it smells like the 70s to me. Which I dig..
The krokos is a really good lather, but the scent is mah IMO..almost non existent.
Now the Crumiro,, it smells pretty damn yummy, again IMO.
Think I need some tartar cups.....
:tu
Um, ahhhh......

Tom, If you get all those from eating Mexican take away remind me to hit the bathroom before I visit the new sharpton shave cave when it opens!!:fim:
Well...it IS Houston Texas here. Heart of old Mexico!

Good luck with the samples. :)
Gave the Osma Alum a go this morning. I am not so proficient using the scuttle, so I usually face-lather.
It was quite thin to begin with, got pretty good for just a short while, bubbled and fizzed-out.
I dumped the hot water out of the chamber and began again with cold water. Did much better, so I think it is one of those I needed more product and cool water. I did like the light scent and it is tingly-feeling.
I will begin differently next time and see if I can get it to go better.
How do you lather it, Phrank?
Went with the Tabac yesterday. I can see how it is lots of guys old standby. Lathers easily. smells alright.
provides good glide. Sorta like Williams with glycerine added! :rofl2:
Good stuff. ;)
Bah! Williams is terrible! I've used body wash that lathers better. :)
I cannot be blamed if you guys don't know how to properly lather Williams, but I digress! :ziplip: :rofl2:
Anyhoo, the point is/was that the Tabac is good. There!
Think I shall run the Krokos to-morrow.
Saving the MDC for last.
You know..........
BobH sent me a healthy sample of MDC. I have to say it is a very very nice soap. He sent me quite a few different soaps, that is the only one one your list though.
I have had the MDC for over a few years, original scent. Love to try new soaps, but it is SO hard to beat...
Still, I like to use other things. They are great as well. That!
It is great. The trouble with soaps is there is so many to try. On my nay list from my samples from Bob is Musgo Real, amd Lea. Most of the time I just have the usual suspect here. Arko, Tabac, LaToja, Volobra Spieck, Maca root. I have had several others and I'm sure more will rotate through. My latest addition is Neumann and Co.
Which is a glycerin based soap, which I do not typically use.
When I first started this hobby, I bought 10 pucks of Williams. I had no idea how long they would last. After using a puck for about a month; I contacted a member and asked him to please take the other 9 pucks.
I gladly paid for shipping.
Does MDC only have the one retailer online?
There is a shop in California that carries it. It is called something like Old Fashioned Shaving Shop or similar.
