Lather & Wood 'Barbershop '
MWF
Saponifica Varasino
D.R.Harris Arlington
As usual gentlemen, ymmv
Joe,
You're right about Krokos going too fast. It's a soft soap, yes, and a lovely one, too, but I expected it to last a wee bit longer. Before I knew it, though, the jar was empty. At around $40 a pop, one would expect a little more in the jar.
Agreed, Obie my friend! It took quite a bit of self indulgence for me to part with that much coin, so I am a bit disappointed. That being said, it is a great soap.
The thing is, with the Krokos a very little goes a long way and if you get carried away with it you can go through it like an M1 Abrams Tank through JP-4. I learned that when I used my Chubby 3 on it one day and it seemed to eat a whole in the jar right to the bottom in one fell swoop.
Steel, I guess the way I wrote that kinda pointed at your comment in a negative way. I'm sorry didn't mean it that way my friend.
And the discussion about the Krokos is exactly why these threads are so awesome!
Yeah you do drop some good coin on that soap, and it is a quality soap for sure.
I enjoy it immensely but as said it goes fast. I've found a smaller, tight brush to be the best for soaps like that
Right now, based on what I have tried, my top five are:
Baume.be - every time I use it, I love it even more. I think I could use this one every day and not regret dropping any others.
D. R. Harris (Arlington for scent) - this is incredible and so easy to lather.
Tabac - incredible slickness, face feel, and consistency.
AOS Tallow - I just got the Lavender from a friend and really wish I could get one with the full scent.
MWF - Hard to get the lather right, but the face feel is so wonderful, especially in the winter. It will always be part of my rotation.
I have yet to try some of the other top soaps and creams. Next on my list are, or course, MDC, the Le Pere Lucien soaps, and, of course, Castle Forbes creams.
Well, I thought it was interesting that DR Harris didn't make anyone's list until page 3 but then it kept coming up. I am still having a tough time with lathering the Harris and have to break out the boar to get it to work.
I to like these lists as it gives me something to put on my wish list. Anyway, below are my top five in a best to last order, meaning that my number one I reach for 3 to 4 times a week and then the lower soaps on the list 2 to 3 and then once a week.
B&M Seville
Klar lemon
Mitchell's wool fat
B&M lemon
Aos sandalwood cream
If someone put a gun to my head and said, "throw out all but one soap and shave with that for the rest of your life, and stop spending money". Without hesitation, I would look straight into my wife's eyes and say..."give me that Seville!"
