I can't really explain why, but I really prefer hard soaps to soft ones. Unfortunately, most of the European production went vegetal, while most of the American artisans make soft Italian type soaps. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely thrilled with superb creations of Eufros, L&L, LPL, and many others, but I'm still looking to expand my tallow triple-milled base.
Any suggestions for first tier tallow triple-milled soaps will be highly appreciated:chapeau
Green Mountain Soaps. Seriously good stuff by my standards.
In my opinion better than DR Harris and Mitchell's.
Have you tried Penhaligon's soap. They are pretty good in my estimation.

Fine Accoutrements are advertised as triple-milled, tallow soaps. I too have a slight bias for tallow soaps and the two Fine offerings in my rotation, Snake Bite and American Blend, are very good soaps that build a lather almost as easily as my D.R. Harris puck. I will say that I would classify these as a bit on the soft side for a hard soap but certainly harder than the Italian-style artisan soaps.
I recall seeing that these soaps are actually manufactured in the Netherlands, under contract for Fine Accoutrements. I say this because it tends to indicate that these aren't exactly "artisan" soaps.

My puck of American Blend seems to build a lather slightly easier than the Snake Bite but both build a quality lather with relatively little effort. For the sake of comparison, my rotation consists of offerings from Fine (American Blend, Snake Bite), D.R. Harris (Windsor), Stirling (Gin & Tonic, Margaritas in the Arctic), Sudsy Soapery (Delor de Treget, Lavender & Peppermint, Twice Mint) and Mitchell's Wool Fat. The worst lathering option of the bunch is the MWF but the rest all lather relatively well. The very best in that list is, unsurprisingly, the D.R. Harris but I'd put the Fine products as a close second.
In all honesty, I haven't been using the American Blend all that often as of late but I pulled it out a few days ago and was once again amazed at how well it lathered.
Get some Haslingers before they too change to a veggie based soap.

When tallow became 'bad' maybe 6-7 years ago now many major companies went vegan...heh. Large well respected names like Pens, Foris, and Trumper to name three all reformulated their soaps. From what I understand Floris was smart enough to change some ingredients and now I hear good things again. Trumpers soaps I do not hear anything good about and haven't for a long time.
Penhaligons went through an incarnation or two and I can't say how the puck performs now. Usta be not good there for a while but I faintly recollect that being fixed. Once again, the creams are a different animal.

Just so you are aware in advance, I am a sales rep for "Henri et Victoria".
This afternoon i received one of my orders from Claude and Jean-Mathieu the two artisans in Gatineau Quebec Canada who developed the "Henri et Victoria" product line.
They had previously advised that they were sending a sample of their newest product (which im told will be available in the next month or so), a triple milled tallow based shave soap in the "Nautilis" scent. I believe the "Nautilis will be followed by other scents in the triple milled process as well.
I hope i don't get into trouble letting the cat out of the bag.

Is the Palmolive shave stick triple milled?
I find it comparable to Tabac and D. R. Harris- it just doesn't smell as good. Plus, the Palmolive soap is limited to stick version only.
Don't know about Palmolive, but other sticks I've used were not triple-milled as they probably wanted the soap to be softer for easier application directly from the stick.Quote:

Another vote for Green Mountain soap. The scents aren't as strong as others but it"s a great soap in my opinion. to me it compares favorably with MWF and others.
I think performance wise Palmolive falls just short of Tabac and D. R. Harris. It can produce a thick, slick lather. Also, it is pretty decent at moisturizing. I'm surprised by how good it is every time I use it. It takes a little longer for me to build a lather with the stick (face lathering) compared to my Harris stick. The Palmolive soap doe smell very similar to the dish washing soap which is detraction for me.Quote:

I do have it! Bought on ebay in April from a seller named madison-ave-deals. Three sealed NOS pucks for $35 shipped. Oh, one important point is there's most likely just one scent available......luckily it's sandalwood. The AOS line was known for an excellent soap in that flavor and when available/being made the soaps were $22. Yep, a lot at the time.Quote:

I don't know of any bowl for the Haslinger pucks, but they would be better suited for a mug, like the Old Spice ones. To facilitate things, they fit very well in the Pyrex 1 cup glass gars. Furthermore, you can even grate a few pucks into any (wooden) bowl of your choice. :)Quote:

Green Mountain soaps are my favorite tallow based soaps. I grate them into a used tub. They are also available from the SRD website and I believe they will ship internationally.
I see it mentioned so often, including in this thread, that MWF is a poor latherer, yet I get a stupendous lather from it without effort. it's certainly one of my top tier soaps.
You are correct. MWF lathers as well as any soap I have. Perhaps others may have a technique issue, but I find it to be reliable and easy to use.Quote:
