I just got my first puck of MDC and now I understand what all the hype is about. I just love it
It came with an instruction card which recommended that you leave the top off and let it dry that way. Does anyone do that?

Yep. I keep my lid on loose on the two SUPER GENEROUS samples Tc sent my way that I keep in some generic soap tins.
On second thought. Honestly it's a big hassle and if I were you I wouldn't even bother with it...just send it my way and I'll relieve you of the burden!:rofl2:
Jer
I read this too but still put the l8ds on the jars. Just helps to keep it clean. Now i will leave the lid off for a few hours after the shave to help dry what water i might have added to it while loading my brush. I think some better scents would be nice, but its hard to beat the performance from this soap.
I find if you leave the lids off soaps over time the scent tends to dissipate.
I try and leave the cover off for an hour or so after use so it dries but cover it after that. Of course my MDC is the "Brain" version in a wood cup so there is no cover so I had to rig up a cover of sorts.
I just put the lid on it without screwing it down.
Jerry I thought you cant smell, so what does it matter,, maybe it smells just fine and its your nose!. Tc
Their brain bowl is uncovered, and seems to maintain it's scent. However, I shave in the morning and leave the cover off hard soaps, such as MdC, to dry out during the day, then cover them in the evening.
^^^^^same^^^^
I have a "brand new" MDC Brain Bowl which I haven't touched yet. It's still in the paper wrapping. I guess I got it 3-4 years ago. It's lost probably 60% of the scent.
In my experience with one brain bowl, once you start lathering the outer layer away, the scent will come back. However, mine didn't sit for 3 - 4 years as I started using it right away, although it seemed like 3 - 4 years until I had polished it off, as I only used it once or twice a week.
What lid?

I have mine under an old pocket watch glass dome. Pull the dome off and take a whiff on occasion. Nice!
I suppose I have had it a year.
About a half a jar left and I shall be a bowl rubber like Richard and Steve....
I prefer 'ice cream bowl' myself! :)
Gentlemen,
I have been meaning to order another brain bowl. My previous one lasted several years. Anyway, after the shave, I leave the jar uncovered for several hours before covering it until the next use. What pleasure Martin de Candre.
What’s a brain bowl?
I prefer the term 'Ice cream bowl'.

So much goodness....
just wooden bowl of MDC that when they put it in the bowl it looks like a bowl full of brains. and its not a puck either, its cool and its just another way to get it instead of the jar
Well, yesterday I found and unwrapped my brain bowl of MDC. I thought I had gotten it around 3 years ago but it turns out is was more like 5 years ago maybe older.
First thing I noticed the product had shrunk by about 20%. I also noticed the scent was about 60% gone and the next thing I noticed the glide and cushion had deteriorated somewhat. It still performed OK but there was a definite deterioration.
It was interesting to compare it to a tub of Castle Forbes which was about as old and it hadn't lost anything.
I put the lid back on after I finish up my shave, so the puck still has some residual moisture. I have seen no degradation at all in the 4-5 years that I have had my first two pucks of MDC.
Now Ron, you know that t doesn't come in puck form. :soapbox::shrug: Tc
Lordy!~ Reckon I shall pry that boulder on top off and send it to a buddy.
Time to use it. My half-jar will be perfect as I travel. Will be doing more of that.
Bust-out the bowl.....It's under a glass dome.
Get right on that! :rofl2:
Sharptonn, I was thinking about this, and remembered I had gotten something from MdC that I thought he called an 'ice cream' bowl. Actually, he calls it "Le Beurrier", and it's sitting next to my wooden bowl MdC in the picture below. When I went to his site, I saw that he has a product called 'ice cream', and it looks like some soap in a glass goblet that has the words 'ice cream' on it. Clever :D

I don't like 'brain bowl-too anatomical-and 'Le Bol en Bois'-the wooden bowl-and MdC's name for it seems too prosaic. I agree with you that it deserves a better name!
Good to learn that, Michael!
I try not to look at their site too much....I think I have a lifetime supply! ;)
I feel that Wooden Bowl is much nicer than a brain bowl anyway!
Looks like the 'ice cream' is 90 grams....
I don't think a goblet. Sitting on a mirror does it. A bowl.

Versus the wooden bowl which is 200 grams.
It would be cool to have the ice cream bowl loaded-up like the wooden one!
Home-Run!
I thought of it first! :deal: Gonna present my idea to them.
Perhaps I shall be rewarded with one?
I ordered The Original today. I had to try it. I've been a Straight Razor Shaver since 1983 and never dreamed I'd pay $65.00 for soap but, I'll probably rotate it with some Harris and it will last a very long time I hope. Should be a good marriage for my Thater 4125/4 Brush!
If I like it I'll probably go ahead an order the other scent.
itll last a long time anyway, whatever how many swirls you do with your regular soap do half with the MDC, I do at the most 8 swirls, and I still put lather down the drain,, I,m an every day shaver who has gotten over a year and 3 months out of a jar.. so compare that to a 20$ soap that only last me 3-4 months. you will like what it does to your skin also. Tc
Thank YOU! That is what I want to hear. I will probably order it in the other scent. I ordered original.
I actually give my wife credit for me placing the order. I was griping about the price etc and trying to justify it by saying everyone says it lasts a long time and she said ya know to heck with all that, you can afford $65.00 and if you enjoy it then it’s worth it.
I doubt that you'll be complaining about the price when you've finished it off. When you do, give me a call at the old folks home.... :)
Cheers, Steve
I'm really looking forward to trying it. If lathers as easy as what I am hearing from others it should do great for me new Thater 4125/4 B brush. And If I like it I'll order the other scent. I have about 14 soaps and creams right now so I don't know what I'll do with those. I can get rid of the creams (I have three, 2-TOBS and 1-Trumper) because I really am a soap guy. Its a 30 plus year thing with me.
Thanks Steve
Good point. But I sold A razor on eBay today that almost covers the cost of the soap
You're not safe! Lol.
Cheers, Steve
