With really hard soaps I have two badger brushes I use...both Semogue. One’s really small and the other is rather large, so if I use the large one, I bowl lather, which I don’t usually do.
To me, the best thing about PdP 63 is the fragrance...I love it.
On all performance metrics: loading, lathering, slickness, residual slickness, cushion and post shave, I rate the soap as very good to excellent, but other than the fragrance, it is not outstanding at anything. I find it similar to Proraso in performance, but prefer the PdP scent.
You can certainly find better soaps, but you will have to spend more for them. If you are looking for value, PdP is an excellent choice.
Mine came today!

And you are never going to believe what it smells like! Exactly! Just like every other PdP 63 product. Of course it’s a cologne, so you have the alcohol, but that’s to be expected.
Wife loves it!
Let us know what you think of yours Harold! I’m happy.
Wish I'd seen this thread I really love the Pre de Provence, but I've only ever tried the straight up stuff, not the 63. Is anyone willing to give a go comparing the scents?
Completely agree that it can be a difficult soap to figure out, and I would say blooming it is a really helpful step. Once I got it figured out I've found the lathers from my Pre de Provence puck really amazing. Oddly, though, even my softest synthetics seem to handle it without any issue.
I actually think the original is more subtle and I liked it better, but when I could never find it anywhere, I switched to the 63, and now I'm "all in" -- cologne, bath soap, shaving soap. It has grown on my, but the shaving soap does take some work to get a good lather.
how does the 63 scent compare to the original? are they similar?
