Noble Otter The Trail
Gentlemen-I don't review many soaps, but after picking up a bunch of samples during the recent Maggard's sale, I have to praise a new favorite: Noble Otter's The Trail just gave me one of the slickest, most refreshing shaves I've ever had. I've been on a bit of a "green" kick lately with the arrival of spring, and this soap is perfect for a sunny day in the high 60's. Face-lathering the sample from a mug, it just explodes with pillowy, ultra-slick lather that is on a par with Wholly Kaw and even MDC in my book. It probably helped that I used a Klopfer 16 that I've tweaked with my SB Ark and stropped to the point it's damn near splitting atoms. And for you guys who like powerful scents like me, this one is very prominent and "in your face" (in a good way) with one of the most complex and delicious scents I have ever had the pleasure to sniff!
Though it is a tallow soap and has several other fatty components to boot, it is not in the same league of post-shave moisturizing as Wholly Kaw, so it may not be the best choice for dry winter days. But again, on a fine spring Sunday followed up by Fine Green Vetiver aftershave, it was just perfect. I may have to spring for a whole tub of this for a change (which I rarely do, as I'm always playing with new samples).
I wouldn't be able to do better than the description from their website:
THE TRAIL SHAVING SOAP
When you venture through the forest in the Pacific Northwest you get all the smells of a lush forest full of Pine, Fir, Sage, Lavender, Oakmoss, Juniper and a touch of Rain. "The Trail" is our tribute to the Pacific Northwest and in particular to Oregon. We used as many essential oils from Oregon as we could. All of the oils used are native plants to this area of the United States and Canada. Pine tar was also added to the soap but at a extremely small amount in order to get a slight smokiness in the soap. Explore the beauty of the Pacific Northwest through scent with our soap, "The Trail".
