New soap question

I recently got a new soap. Shaved with it yesterday. Razor seemed to tug and left burn. Havent changed anything else. Is this something others have seen maybe just not a good soap.

Some soaps are better than others. Some soaps contain fragrances that may irritate your skin, but not irritate others. Some artisan soaps seem be nothing more than repackaged body soap. For the bad artisan soaps I usually add a few drops of glycerin to. If that doesn't fix it, then I just use it to wash my hands with.

What was the name of the soap? If it is well known brand, someone here will know how to fix it.

With the resurgence in wet shaving there are a lot of new soaps on the market,..some good and some not so good. Odds are the soap is the culprit.

Im thinking that is the case. Didnt change anything else just like the razor dont want to glide right. Thanks

Might be just what you want in a soap.

I read many reviews about how the soap allows the razor to glide.

To me they seem slimy/gooey and i don't like that.

If the water from the faucet doesn't wash the soap away without wiping that is a good indication to me.

But this is my opinion and YMMV!

The shave soaps I bought that didn’t provide sufficient glide or after shave face feel quickly became hand or shower soaps. In my experience, local artisan soap makers seem to concentrate on the scent more than the characteristics of a good shave soap. That’s because the market they are targeting is looking for a nice smelling, natural cleaning product. Wet shavers want more than that.

Buy some Arko. Very, very cheap and excellent quality.

From there you can then start getting the more expensive soaps.

I've had two "shaving" soaps from local soap makers.

Absolute crap. Would not even use them in the shower

I've definitely gotten irritation from soap before. I know because there was burning before I even put the razor to my face. The soap in question was Henri & Victoria Cognac & Cuban Cigars.
