I recently received a new razor via Dwessell at which point in time I swapped my Castle Forbes Cedarwood and Sandalwood cream for his Tabac Original so that we could try them out. I noticed that I was getting more skin irritation after the swap. Not knowing what was causing this, I decided to do a quick test to see if it was the new razor or the new cream.

Here is the breakdown.

I started by washing my face with Neutrogena razor defence scrub. I've found that this seems to soften the whiskers nicely.
I then made a hot Uber lather using glycerin, non-scented soap (it was in the gift bag at the asheville meeting), and the Tabac original.
The second time around (about a week later) I used the Castle Forbes instead.
The razor both times was the same Wade and Butcher wedge blade, and cold rinses to remove the shaving cream from the blade.
Ogallala Bay Rum after shave/skin toner was used both times.

The Tabac has a classic (smells like my grandfather) scent however the lather that I made with it seemed to dry out about half way through the shave and lost quite a bit of density.
On the other hand the Castle Forbes (slight peanut butter scent) held up great and produced a creamier lather that lasted for both passes.

After trying both I found little to no irritation after using the Castle Forbes. I got a great shave with both but the day after using the Tabac I had a mild break out around my chin. This could have been due to the drying out that I noticed half way through the shave and might be able to be solved, though I'm not sure what would be added.

I'm fairly certain this rules out the new razor and I hope this helps out. Anyone who knows who manufactured the soap that was in the goodie bag at the convention in Asheville let me know so that I can give them proper credit.
