    Default The German Soaps

I only have TABAC and SPEICK, so please add reviews to this if you have Gold-Dachs, Irische Moos, etc.

    TABAC

Ah, the special one. Easy to lather, thick creamy (almost shaving cream thick) lather, slick, great close shave, nice and protective. Cool retro ceramic bowl. Maybe face doesn't feel like it does after IK, but certainly good on face. Scent - well, I dig it. Not everyone does. I call it a "sleazy seventies night club scent", though I was too young to really know what seventies nightclubs smelled like - but it kind of invokes for me John Travolta and Farah Fawcett Majors or Cheryl Tiegs in a good sweat after disco dancing. I think some people have skin sensitivity to TABAC but everyone else seems to love it. A real bar setter. Tallow based if you care.

My only regret is no one markets the stick over here, so it's like $35 with shipping.

    SPEICK SHAVING STICK

I heard good things about the speick stick, and it's pretty cheap so I got it. I don't get it. The lather is very dry for me. Performance mediocre. Scent mediocre - not as strong as the cream. Lather mediocre. It's an ok tallow based soap, but just ok, and there are so many great sticks and soaps that I'd never bother with this again. If you want a great cheap tallow stick, get valobra or one of the others like La Toja (which I haven't tried but I bet it's better than this). If someone else is finding nirvana with this stick, please chime in and share your secret with me.

Stuff I'd like to try when my wife isn't looking:

    1. Irische Moos (tabac with a different scent?)
    2. Tabac stick
    3. Gold Dachs
    4. Revivage (a form of Gold Dachs I think)
    moehal likes this.
