I found that with the lid off mine it dries out and shrinks a little so i tend to keep a lid on mine,
just make sure there arent any pools of water in the bowl.
Mine is left upside down on the counter until I get home tonight from work, then it is sealed and put away for the next use...
I don't like that gummy soap snot on my soap LMAO
Try it both ways and see for yourself...:)
I cannot not use my soaps often anymore. I have noticed that some of the softer ones like Tabac, have cracks on top because they have dried out a bit. They work just fine and they can be brought back in a flash. I guess the lesson is that keeping the water content of the soap close to what the manufacturer intended is the best way to preserve the appearance of the soap. In any case, an increased water content should not affect the performance of the soap, unless the water is hard.

Hello, everyone:
My soaps are kept in several shave mugs on the bathroom counter and they are always open. If they dry, they can be revitalized quickly wit a wet brush or a few drops of water. After using soaps in tubs with lids, I keep the lid off for a day or so before screwing the lid back on. I've had no problems with the soaps deteriorating.
Regards,
Obie
I leave the wet soap with the lid off until I get home from work and then replace the lid. I don't like to leave it open for the drying out and the dust that might accumulate but I don't like to put the lid on when it is wet either. Might grow something in there. :)
Leave the lid off of a wooden soap bowl until the soap dries out...
I had the lid warp on my favorite bowl. :(
I shave predominately at night. I find that if I leave the lid/cap off overnight my soaps are dry enough to seal up before I go to work. Makes for a nice scent in my bedroom too, where my soaps are stored.
I've never had a problem with placing the lid back on a cake of soap, as long as there is no STANDING water there.
I rotate through about 8 soaps so once I finish shaving I leave the lid off for maybe 45 minutes or so, so it dries and then the lids go back on. I find without lids the scent slowly decreases over time and dirt gets into the soap.
If you use glycerin based soaps you have to be more careful since the water will dissolve them. The milled soaps are much more resistant to that.
I put the lid on when I'm finished shaving. Never had a problem.
I put the lid on after I clean everything up. There's usually still a little lather / paste on top. The lid keeps the soap damp, and makes it easier to load the brush the next morning. Leaving it damp hasn't grown anything yet... Does mold even grow on soap ?
