Cool keep lid on or off?

does the cake of shave soap break down by staying wet all the time when you keep the lid on it or is it better to store it with the lid off till it drys out?

I found that with the lid off mine it dries out and shrinks a little so i tend to keep a lid on mine,
just make sure there arent any pools of water in the bowl.

I cannot not use my soaps often anymore. I have noticed that some of the softer ones like Tabac, have cracks on top because they have dried out a bit. They work just fine and they can be brought back in a flash. I guess the lesson is that keeping the water content of the soap close to what the manufacturer intended is the best way to preserve the appearance of the soap. In any case, an increased water content should not affect the performance of the soap, unless the water is hard.

Default Kee lid on or off?

    Hello, everyone:

My soaps are kept in several shave mugs on the bathroom counter and they are always open. If they dry, they can be revitalized quickly wit a wet brush or a few drops of water. After using soaps in tubs with lids, I keep the lid off for a day or so before screwing the lid back on. I've had no problems with the soaps deteriorating.

    Regards,
    Obie

I leave the wet soap with the lid off until I get home from work and then replace the lid. I don't like to leave it open for the drying out and the dust that might accumulate but I don't like to put the lid on when it is wet either. Might grow something in there.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Leave the lid off of a wooden soap bowl until the soap dries out...
I had the lid warp on my favorite bowl.

I shave predominately at night. I find that if I leave the lid/cap off overnight my soaps are dry enough to seal up before I go to work. Makes for a nice scent in my bedroom too, where my soaps are stored.

I've never had a problem with placing the lid back on a cake of soap, as long as there is no STANDING water there.
