Making my own soaps

So, I have decided to try my hand at making shaving soaps.
Just wondering if anyone has any tips or scents they think would be good?

I have Sandalwood from THe Art of Shaving that I really like.

souschefdude - TAOS Sandalwood is one of my favorites too, I might have to try and make my own.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you need to give our free testers to everyone so we can give you feedback on your level of success. Seriously though, best of luck and be sure to let us know how it goes as you progress through your soap making adventure.

Bay rum seems popular. If you could duplicate the Mitchells Wool Fat soap and sold it at a fair price, I bet that would sell.

Are you planning some melt and pour glycerin soaps or are you looking to make a cold process soap? I have made many of my own soaps from what I can tell you the three most important things are research, research and research. Nobody will give you their prized recipe as they worked hard for that and don't expect to get every batch right every time. Making soap is a science, but also an art. As people like Alraz can tell you perfecting the science takes years, but the art comes with the many variables you must control during your process. If you have questions there are many great soapmaking sites out there and many great soap makers here, but if they get defensive do not get upset they know that many people have tried this and given up; they don't want to give their secrets to someone who will pass tjem out like candy and they don't want to encourage someone who probably shouldn't be playing with lye or potash.

Well I am planing on giving out some samples if
I can get some soaps that work out.
I will be sure to let you all know.

deighaingeal - I'm going to do some melt and pour to start with and then go to CP soaps. I have done quite a lot of research, and I'm always looking for more info, so I agree that research is the number one thing I can do.
I think now It's going to be a little bit of trial and error and see what I come up with.
