Yes, I think it will last a year if you use it exclusively. Mine is just starting to show it's been used (dishing in the soap) and I've used it somewhere around 30x.

thanks for the answer.
I would say the large jar will last at least a year. Mine is barely 9 months old and I might use it once a week or once a fortnight as a bare minimum. It's gone down about half a centimetre and I tend to really over-load my brush. The lather is so good, I just don't want to use any other soap once I clear-out/use my hoarded items. And believe me, there's plenty of them!
I'll be venturing out on the wooden bowl version when mine runs out. And with cheaper shipping rates coming (Jose - can't thank you enough if you manage to pull this one off for all of us!!), I'll definitely be putting an order in for some Eau de Candre colognes and some other big treats :)
I only told Marie Amélie the same opinions that we are talking in the forum, all the people post the same, great product, expensive and the shipping costs are higher than any other webshop....If she don't try to improve this features of her business she wouldn't be very intelligent
I'm teaching a friend, who is a long time DE shaver, how to shave with a straight. He uses a rather small brush so I let him use one of my brushes. I decided to make it a real treat, so I pulled out the MdC. He was stunned at the performance of the MdC.
Since he's tight on cash, the only honorable thing to do is to share some of my MdC with him. Hmm, maybe I should have bought 2-3 jars when I was in Paris...
hey guys,
so now after reading all these rave reviews i have got to try this stuff. in looking at their website though i saw they have the special editions "le domino" and "Le cannele"...can anyone explain more about these? what do they smell like? are they just as good as the original?
thanks,
Justin
IMHO the limited editions (cannellé, domino, etc....) are less perfumed than the regular jar, at least in the jars that I've seen. The next week I receipt some MdC soap for a spanish group of wetshavers, I'll tell you the differences.
The color of the soap is a bit darker and spotted in the soap of the jars too. The soap of the limited editions is white as the unscented version . I have the unscented in jar, a travel regular soap in jar and a wooden bowl, and I agree: the soap, kept open, loss the scent faster, the soap in travel jar is more powerful by the scent side. At lathering they are all the same,.....the best soap :D
interesting info guys, thanks for all the quick replies!
They just launched their new website, less expensive shipping now! :)
Martin De Candre
The English version isn't up and running yet it seems, but it's not that hard to understand.
Ran through a trial sale (170gm size), and shipping to the USA is $23.69, so shipping doesn't seem to be discounted to the USA yet.
I got the following two emails from MdC a short while after the news was posted to this thread. I'm including both emails in their original formats, unedited. I have no idea what the French version is on about, nor am I responsible for the spelling mistakes in the English version!

A guy on the Badger and Blade has a new bottle for sale for $63 tonight. I pm'd him on it. We'll see.
I found this website which quoted me a lower price for the same thing, but they don't take Paypal and I don't have money otherwise. Hmm...
oops sorry thought I linked it. Presentatin of the shaving soap of quality with generous
This site is the ancient store
You will really love the stuff !
You guys are EVIL! After reading all the glowing reviews of this magical shaving soap, and wrestling with my wallet for weeks, I finally broke down and ordered the Marin de Candre in the wooden bowl, along with a couple of bars of bath soaps. Now the agony of the waiting...
I have been faithful to the I Coloniali mango cream soap for several months, neglecting the other 30 or so soaps and creams on the shelf, as I find the scent intoxicating, and the cushion/moisturizing of I Coloniali suits me perfectly. Is there anyone here who appreciates the I Coloniali as I do, who can give me some idea as to how it compares with the Martin de Candre?
This is SO far outside my pay grade! But I went ahead and bought some that was posted on the B & B forums. I think I could've bought 4 tubs of TOBS for the price I paid ($63). Gulp.....
I'm gonna have to sell some one of my straights to make up for this:nono:
Hello,DMHarper:
I Coloniali mango soap is one of my preferred soaps. I have it in the pottery bowl. And yes, the fragrance is intoxicating. Lather, glide and cushion are good, too. It's one of the better soaps around. Martin de Candre is in its own class, but there are many other good soaps out there. I Coloniali is one of them.
Regards,
Obie
Has anyone thought about attempting a group buy?
I could have sworn I saw someone post that they had contacted the store and offered this, but as this is still a relatively small business, that it wouldn't happen.
Damn you, Obie! Look what you've started!
On the other hand, I DID just convince my wife that $150 of next month's budget is going toward MdC's soaps. Yeah, it was a bribe.
Although, if she doesn't like it, Obie, I'm a dead man. I'll just tell her that Obie made me do it, then point her North, toward Milwaukee.
If you don't mind I would like to add to the order about 5 or 6 soaps of my own...
1 l'Ami
1 Le Domino
1 Cafet
1 Le Cannele
1 Perle
1 Le bol en Bois
1 of a nice aftershave if they have one
and one of those wooden soap storage boxes that someone on here mentioned that they sell...
i am assuming these are all different variations of the shave soap i got from them which is the ultimate shave soap for me. if these are just different packaging of the same soap someone please let me know as i do not speak french. only live once, might as well do it right... this order should probably last me that long and still give me something to hand down to the next generation ;)
AFAIK there is only two versions of the shaving soap, scented and unscented, the difference is the packaging.
You are an EVIL EVIL MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :soapbox:OK just for the sake of grin's....Where do I find this? Although SWMBO is ok with me getting more(she loves the smells and sits and enjoys it as much as I do), I am seriously dipping into my firearms money with all the wonderful things you advise me on.:nono::nono:
Just once could you be wrong so I had just a hint of apprehension prior to dropping more cash???:rofl2::aargh::roflmao
Hello, str8Shooter:
The last I looked Bull Goose had it, as well as Connought, in England. They're both good sites. I have a feeling you will like the stuff. It's no Martin de Candre, but nothing else is either.
Regards,
Obie

I just had my first experience with MdC. When the package arrived today (I bought a new jar from a fellow no the B & B) I felt a bit sick to my stomach for having spent so much on the soap ($63).
The stuff sure smelled good though.
I prepped and made about 5 circles of my brush on the top of the soap (which still looks untouched now). The amount of lather I created in my bowl was pretty amazing. My goto cream is TOBS and I'd say I got 2x the lather and from a much smaller portion. I have no idea how many shaves I'll get from this jar of MdC but it will be A LOT!
The scent is awesome and I got a BBS shave from 2 passes with my Dovo Bismark red. I lathered up and did a 3rd just because I didn't want all that lather to go to waste. In fact I let it sit on my face while I stropped my razor after finishing up! Yeah, it really is that good.
I still feel bad spending so much, but this soap does a pretty phenomenal job and I'm sure I'll get my money's worth out of it. Honestly for the amount of lather I received from so little MdC i think it might last longer than the 3 or 4 tubs i could have bought of TOBS for the same price!
