I like the red plastic container, but I suppose it would depend on how often you use it. All soaps will dry out eventually as far as I know, but if you use them they are less likely to. I wouldn't risk it because I love my cella, but if you want to experiment you can at least know that cella is still readily available and inexpensive.
One thing you may want to think about too is dissipation of scent.
Thanks for your reply .
I had not thought of loosing the beautiful smell .I had my first shave with Cella today and was very impressed with it .
My wife gave me Cella for my birthday and I love the smell and it shaves well. I just need to add a little more water to the mug; I had it a bit on the dry side. I use my finger and scoop some out and put it in my mug, add about a teaspoon of water and whip it up with my brush.
BaldyLocks,
You can also take an almond sized piece and smear it over your chops and face lather; works much better than it sounds :)
For me, Cella is the best lather product I have ever used :)
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
Cella is best stored in a sealed container with limited exposure to light or air. The reason being... it doesn't have any preservatives and has a lot of tallow, which can spoil; also, the scent will dissipate in time.
Cella is awesome. When I got mine I smoshed it into a tupperware and used it that way so I had more room to work my brush.
It's in my top 3 soaps.
What does Cella smell like? I'm in the market for another cheap soap. It's what I love about wet shaving. I can try different stuff and really have very little money in it.
Almond paste...yummmmm.
I miss my grandmother's cookies.
They say almond but it is not a clear almond scent.
I have the P.160 and the Figaro cream and they both smell almond without any doubt.
Cella smells very different; for sure it is not a clear almond scent. This soap has a particular and original scent that cannot be found in any other soap (at least known to me).
It cannot tell that Cella has a nice scent. With time I got used to it and now I like it, but I remember the first time that I bought it I was saying that it smells like … petroleum.
It smells like marzipan to me. I love it.
I have the 1Kg block. The bulk of which is in the fridge, wrapped in cling film. It's only a matter of time before a visitor decides to try a bit of marzipan.
Gotta love Cella, and if you can find it,P160 is to die for:)

It sounds as if your Cella may have turned, or is starting to. Fresh Cella is bright white with a distinct almond scent. Very similar to P160, however that has a bit of a cherry scent mixed in that is absent in Cella. Funny thing is, even turned Cella performs well. Not as well as fresh, but still better than most other soaps!
I have been thinking this from the first day I bought it.
This is because my cella was not clear white as described but light brown with white spots.
Another thing is that I bought it from an old drugstore with very slow business going on, and I cannot say that I would be surprised if you told me that my cella was waiting for me there for over 5 or 6 years.
In order to prevent these type of soaps to turn yellow (basically, any tallow based soap will unavoidably get rancid and yellow) just keep in the refrigerator. This is what I do with my Cella, P.160, Vitos, Tabac and all the other tallow based soap. They will keep almost forever and will not lose their aromas as well.
It mainly depends on your house temperature and how much they are exposed to oxygen.
However, if you keep it in a cool place you will delay them to turn to yellow quite a lot. In my experience, and depending on the soap type and brand, it usually takes about 12 months before noticing an evident change in color and smell.
You start realizing your tallow based soap is going to turn as soon as you can smell a rancid aroma. The same you can smell in lard or fats as time goes by.
I just keep it in the red tub it came in & use it almost every day. Still smells great (had it for 4 months & about half gone--will definitely get more!) & the performance is amazing. For me, Cella is tied evenly w/ Castle Forbes for being the best lathering product I've ever used in my life.
Just saw on eBay there was two red tubs
Of cella for $22.50 shipped.
Seems like a nice way for someone to
Try this great soap.
