Hello, rearviewmirror:
I like my new middle name. It's cool.
Oh, yes, La Toja. I'm reserving my comments for the review of it this week or next, depending on my schedule.

Obie, are you getting a kickback from MdC...(snicker)
Does she have a birthday coming up? Anniversary? Better yet, buy your MdC and buy her some bath soap, then send her on a spa trip with it or some such. Maybe turn the house in to her own little spa for the day kind of thing, candles, relaxing music, some fruit & chocolate. Just have it all ready for her when she gets home one day then while she's in the tub soaking, cook her some dinner (Filet Oscar, perhaps)and ask her how she likes her fancy new french soap you got for her because you love her so much and since she's the world to you, she should get to experience the pleasure of fine European soap (you could probably sneak in a La Toja order with that, as well).
Tomorrow is my 26th wedding anniversary. You have to understand that after you have been married this long, you start to finish each others sentences. Which is a good thing (unless trickery is afoot!). Every ruse you gentlemen have come up with, while good, has been worn by time into a thin veil. COME UP WITH SSOMETHING WAAAAY BETTER IF YOU WANT TO BEDAZZLE SWMBO AT MY HOUSE>>>>LOL you guys are great, but keep trying please.
Congrats Joe! And Mrs Joe must be a saint!
She is, just got her sainthood last year. My beautiful and persistant SWMBO!
Congrats on the Anniversary! We're coming up on 7 in August, which when I think about it it just seems like last year. Except for the three kids.
I don't purport to pull one over on my SWMBO, but I figure if I at least spend twice as much on her as I do on myself, she can't be too mad. As long as I don't use the CC to hide it from her.
Just Read that MdC has a new website, did the calculations and correct me if I am wrong but its around 72 dollars all told for 170g of this soap?
Then just straight out tell her you would like to try this soap if she doesn't mind. I know the cost is outrageous but it is something that would make me happy. When she comes back with something that would make her happy you agree to it. Done.
Ding Ding Ding Ding, Folks, we have a winner! Daryl, I like your thinkin'... the straightforward approach usually works the best. Guess I'll just have to man up and tell her. Thanks buddy!
Or.......
Organize a group-buy and be the final purchaser of said a
Soap, and when she flips about the $250 charge, smooth her over saying, "honey, relax. I only spent $50 of our money."
I've been trying to order the last few days , but the site seems to have problems. Guess I'll just have to keep waiting.
Just noticed this old thread, as I am looking to buy my father some nice shaving soap for his birthday... Are any active Aussie members interested in some MDC? I am looking to order some, so if anyone wants in to split shiping cost, let me know. I will likely order in the next week or so.
I have all three scents of MDC and I love them. However I have found that Caties is as good for 1/3 the price. Just sayin
Thanks for your post... I must admit, I do not know Caties. Does anyone else have any thoughts re Caties vs MDC?
MDC is at the pinnacle of soaps. I have no experience with the other soap mentioned but I would be astounded if it was the equal of MDC in all respects.
I have some Catie's Bubbles, very nice soap, absolutely.
In the same league as MDC? Not in my opinion, while it's a fine product, it's B-Team when compared to XPEC, Castle Forbes, ADP, Tabac, T&H, and MWF, I might even throw in DR Harris soaps as nicer as well...just my opinion, as always, YMMV.
This is a ymmv thing. I was enamored with MDC when I first got it. But I've since changed my mind. It's a good soap but I prefer Xpec, Barrister and Mann, and Penhaligons over it. I don't find it as lick or as protective as the others. It lathers like no other but overall I prefer the others.
It's a very good shaving soap and comes tightly packed in a glass jar. You can get a years worth of shaving from just one jar.
Well, one man's pinnacle could very well be another man's abyss. Just fancy for YMMV thing.
Bob
$57.00 for shaving soap,WOW:)
I was hesitant at first to pay that much for a soap I haven't tried yet, but then I found a US based site that sold the small jars for a price I was willing to pay and after getting it I wish I would have just got the big jar. I still have the small jar, but its getting low and I will get it again. The fact that a tiny and I mean A TINY amount goes a long way and the performance of the soap is why I will be getting it again. I just wish I remembered where I got it from originally so I wouldn't have to pay the shipping, but it is a great soap and worth it IMHO.
Does this make us shaving snobs?? Because I am down home blue collar overalls sort of guy.

I,m an old roughneck from the oilfield , wearing overalls and playing in the oil and mud , but I still like nice stuff so yes i guess I,m a soap snob!!!! and Roy yes I still have a bunch left , it last forever , and I use it 4 days out of seven, then I use my other three soaps, they are castle forbes lavender, Xpec, and Tabac ,, these are the soaps that work on my Gorilla face ! tc
Guys if you have the chance give Saponificio Varesino a try, very good soap IMO.
